I just got my hands on a Recoil from a trade with SolomonKane79.

As neat as it is, it is most certainly destined to head on down the road after I've fiddled with it a bit.

The spring-loaded pliers are pretty awesome... to extend. Getting them back in is less fun. The combo tools are some of the more interesting attempts at cramming a bunch of function into small spaces I've ever seen. I'm not sure I'd call them 'sucessful' attempts, but I applaud the effort.

To store the pliers away I pinch the top and bottom of the jaws with thumb and forefinger just past the tip, rather than pressing down on the very tip itself.  Much more comfortable.  Not sure I'm explaining that very well though, am I making sense?

I found that if I press the handles together (towards the closed position) it interferes with the jaws sliding back into the handles (and because of ergonomics your hand tends to do this without intending to).  I push the tip of the pliers on something hard to push the pliers back into the retracted position.

I agree with pretty well everyone else, the Recoil is not a tool I'd recommend as a regular EDC, that's for sure.

Well, I have not had a chance to use it, but I can give some first impressions!

1. It seems to be very well made and I like the handles. As far as its design goes, it is different. Gerber is good at making tools that do not look like others!
2. They are one of the few to get the bit adapter part right! It used standard 1/4 inch driver bits. No proprietary holders or adapters. Big thumbs up to them for this!
3. Both blades are razor sharp right out of the box
4. I like the sheath! Would be better if it had a spot for some extra driver bits.
5. The scraper tool is sharp, and I have not seen that on any other multitool.

The bad?
1. The two flathead screwdrivers cannot be pulled up unless the blade or driver is pulled open. I saw no place to get my fingernail on to open them. It was late, so maybe it was just me!! They also could have left one off and put scissors on the thing!
2. A bit over priced. The box says it is made from domestic and foreign components, then assembled in the US. I would have expected a tool at this price range to be 100 percent US manufactured. There is no way of knowing what was made here or elsewhere. I would guess the knife blades where made here since I have never owned a Chinese knife that was as sharp as these blades are.

Just my 2 cents!!

Same here.

Can't say as I'm a huge fan (admittedly heavily biased to my Leatherman tools) although the sliding pliers are addictive...

Will probably move it along at some point.

I'm really liking them... The Compact is especially cool for it's size. I see it being carried often. That is if Mrs D doesn't commandeer it... I saw her playing with it earlier.

I've been lucky in that all my MP 600's and the one MP 400 all have the older clip point style blades. Only my Recoil and Suspension have the newer Wharncliffe style blades. I don't remember ever using those blades for anything yet so I can't really comment on them in the good or bad.

I just bought a MP 600 Blunt Nose on ebay that's going to have a Wharncliffe style blade so who knows, I might like it.  :-\
