I sharpen my hooks on the diamond file, and in so doing I create a little double edged blade on the hook-point. For me it works better, and for some reason that I can't figure out, they snag less on rocks and stuff. FWIW, my hooks are SHARP.
When my hook points are slightly deformed, I squeeze them between my plier jaw tips in the grooves, and twist twist twist until either the defect falls off, or is aligned. Even when I've straightened the defect, it has at least enough strength left (after appropriate sharpening) to set.
