Little Gerber pocket sized tool with hinged lid?
on: November 16, 2013, 03:38:47 AM
I'm looking for a model name... it's the one that looks like the handle from an MP400...

I've got one on the way from Dennis myself.  Couldn't be happier as it's been on my 'want' list for a good while.  They seem to have come in a few different tool configurations as well.  I would call them tricky to find, but not impossible.  Might be worth putting up a wanted thread.

I have two colours...but also be forewarned, there are a few knock offs of this design out in the wild. At least non of them carry any Gerber markings...but I have seen some not so stellar photography on eBay that could trick someone into buying the wrong thing. There are also a few versions of the Multi-lite.

here is the version I have on the way, so that's at least three different versions already, and that's not including colour variations.

There have been several on eBay recently, but often the sellers don't know what they are so searching on "multi-lite" doesn't find them.

Just so happens that mine landed on my desk this afternoon.  I gotta say I like it. :)  I wasn't expecting the amber coloured LED, that was an interesting touch.

Sorry to say that the plastics feel a little cheap IMO, especially the tweezers and toothpick.  The main tools are good though, but given their shared heritage with the MP600/400 that wasn't a surprise.

Very cool Gareth.  :tu:  Now we just gotta get Zed one and he'll start us a club.....  :)  As to the toothpick and toothpick, mine actually came to me with Victorinox ones rather than the original Gerbers.  There was also a Vic mini driver in the corkscrew.  It's a neat concept, and I agree the main tools are good.  Are the scissors on yours marked Fiskars?

They are indeed. :)  In fact these are the first Fiskar marked scissors I've had on a Gerber.

My wife just spotted me playing with mine and commented that it looked rather like a stapler.  I can't say she's wrong. :D

Well, I don't have a Fit to put it next to it, but from what I remember of the Fit the Multi-lite is a good bit smaller.  The actual light isn't in the same league as the one on the Fit though.

Love it. But it seems bulky for the number of tools (probably because all are on the same side).
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

You know Gareth, the Multi Lite is the only Gerber I have that has Fiskars marked scissors too.  And yes, it does look kinda like a stapler....  :)

Some quick snaps of mine.

Not small, but not huge either.  Very comparable to a five layer Vic.

Not easy to see, but there is a can opener there as well.

Like I said, I wasn't expecting the amber LED, but it's not a problem IMO.

I must say that I never thought I would like a Gerber but there are a couple of their MT's that are starting to grow on me!!   :D

But not so long ago I didn't liked Aloxes either...  (or )

don't worry. I used to exclusively carry Swiss army knives until I hesitantly bought an mp600 and brought it camping. from that time on I knew I can put my life in the hands of a gerber product (except the first few runs of the Bear Grylls ultimate knife)

Just like the Leatherman Skeletool and Juice's there are a lot of Gerber's that invoke some strong feelings, both positive and negative. ;)

Relatively safe bets are things like the MP600 and MP400, though it's never a certainty that everyone will like them.  Mind if I ask which Gerber's have caught your eye?  The Multi-Lite I'm guessing (given the thread we are in) but are there any others?

I had the feeling that some Gerber would eventually please me. Since I never held any I will admit that I was caught by the looks on the Bear Grylls line  :-X.

I'll emphasize that I only like the color scheme.

When the Dime came out I thought it was somewhat interesting, I also like anyone that holds the carbide wire cutters.
