No wonder it was so cheap. Hopefully the drill will not be required. Dawn gets the first chance.

Dang. No snap on any of the tools. Hopefully you can get the snap back somewhat. Could just be a beater SAK for you now or a donor for modding.

PB Blaster works pretty well to loosen up tools and get the snap back in them, but getting the stink out of the knife afterward is a chore.

What's PB Blaster?

What's PB Blaster?

It's an aerosol spray lube that mechanics use for loosening up rusty, frozen bolts.

You can probably find it in your local auto parts store.

Just dump it in very hot water not sink hot microwave hot, minus the scales. (they will warp...ask me how I know) then work the tools. Scrub/brush/whatever the exposed tang of the tools after repeated opening and shutting. It'll work free fine metal dust and other crud..

I've bought SAKs that not only didn't snap but some of the tools wouldn't open with out bending my thumb nail. To be hoenst all I did was 3 in 1 and kept working the tools and scrubing the tang. Eventually it clears out whatever is gunking it up.

Boiling water speeds up the process so much...

After a 24 hour WD-40 soak, she is 90% back.

You had the entire piece soaked? Please tell more on how you did!

I just sprayed it down till the whole knife was dripping. Opened the tools a bunch of times and let it set for 24 hours. There was some kind of tar, glue or gunk in in everything.

Surprisingly this is actually good to hear. I was suspecting the liners had "somehow" worn out since nothing was working. Now you know there was still something in there and if you get it all out the snap will probably come back. Keep us posted on what happens.  :tu:
