It was probably improperly hardened during the heat treatment.

Sorry to see that mate.  Nothing you've done wrong I'd say, looks to be a flaw in the steel perhaps, but more likely been made too brittle in the heat treatment.

I remember doing exactly the same thing to a good quality dedicated Pozi screwdriver, I was more than a little shocked when it suddenly popped.

all the "right" conditions to snap that Philip for sure.  im guessing a bad heat treatment as well tho im far from an expert.  glad you didn't hurt by the shrapnel. im looking forward to seeing what the Vic warranty will do with this tool.

Looks to me the metal failed, my opinion anyways, should be covered by the warranty.

It doesn't look like this is due to anything you've done wrong Joel. In fact, I believe that all multitools are prone to this sort of breakage depending on how well they were manufactured. Send it off to Vic and let us know how it goes.  :salute:

Wow, Joel, that's crazy :o  I don't think I've ever heard of anyone breaking their Spirit on here, but that doesn't mean it hasn't ever happened.  I'm curious to see the pics too ;)  I'm sure Vic will fix you right up though :tu:

I'm on a budget. I got no choice but to stick to it.

My wife makes the budget I'm not going to fight with here. Its Xmas time. :)

Just when things start to run smoothly, then BAM!!! Some mofo invents Christmas and ruins everything. :))

Hopefully you will get to send it off soon and have it back for New Year's. Eve. Lots of beer to open!
