What is this knife?

Hi there, just wondering if someone could educate me about this knife. I have no idea where on earth it came from, materials used, age, etc. thanks in advance.

What country are you in/where did you find it? (we need a few clues  :) )

I would try cleaning the blade a little with a nail brush and some water (wire brush maybe  :-\ )  the tang might have a makers stamp

Is the handle wood with leather spacers? ( again a gentle clean )

Hi Hotknives, welcome! Sparkys spot on...it kinda looks a bit like Sykes Fairburn,but shorter and much wider :think:

Welcome to the forum hotknives.

I am sorry to say that my gut reaction is not good.  It has the basic look of a European dagger from the C16th or earlier.  BUT it doesn't feel right to me, a few little things but mostly the blade looks wrong; not enough 'shaping' or 'work' things like fullers or a central rib.  :-\  I suspect it is a modern piece that has been aged, though there was also a lot of that kind of thing from the C19th so it might be a bit older than I am guessing.

Of course I could be well out, it's very tough to give a definitive answer without getting to hold it. :shrug:

Thanks for the input so far. I'll give it a mild cleanup and post some more pics.
I live in Canada and found the knife in a box of collectibles that came from an anthropologist that worked in the navy some time ago. Not sure when though, maybe the sixties.
The handle is wood.

The spacers have rust on them as well so some kind of metal.
