:iagree: BO has a certain appeal to them that I just can't quite explain ???

With SS you just get scratches (which has a different kind of appeal) but with BO you get character  maybe that's why I :like: them so much :dunno: :D

I just bought my first New Style Surge. I wanted a BO one bad, but I just can’t get past the fact that the coating on the pliers has worn off on my Waves and Charges by simply opening them to slightly break them in. I like the worn in look, but that isn’t worn in. It’s just eaten away. Looks like garbage before you even put the tool to use. Rant over.

That is totally normal due to the way the Surge, Wave or others are designed. Where surfaces touch/rub each other the surface will be "polished".
BO is much better than any coating because it is happening within the actual metal surface. Still, it will polish/rub away.
Lots of people like that used look especially, including myself  :D
It's the same with Victorinox btw, but I think the Leatherman BO looks better and more even.
Still, it will get that beautiful used look when used  :pok:

I do get that :salute: It doesn't happen to all of them but it does happen :dunno: For the price it really shouldn't but I can make myself get past it, especially with a user :salute:

Thank you.  The HEST is a tank.  I've done naughty things with that knife and thankfully its a survivor.  My Old Surge is at home while my New Surge is my heavy duty best for work now.

I think there are pics of this earlier in this thread.

To answer your question, yes, someone has done this. I can't remember who did it or where it was posted but it's on the forum somewhere...

After watching Ben from TXToolCrib's video about a couple of options for holding the eyeglass screwdriver from the Leatherman Bit Kit, here is another option:

Drill a 1.2mm hole in the end of the bit kit holder, I drilled all the way through to the last large bit:

Use your pliers to insert the bit into the hole, it will be snug

Use your bit kit as the handle of your mini screwdriver

Hopefully it works well for you

Leatherman could mould a proper hex hole into the plastic to fit the bit perfectly. No need for adapter bits or the dedicated driver taking up tool space if you're happy to carry the bit kit and not have a lanyard on it.

I thought about heating the bit and melting the hole in there, but I figured the chance of screwing it up were higher, and potentially ruining the temper not worth it.

I always have one of the bit kits in my sheath that has the removable bit adapter (keeps me versatile with a bit driver and the square Phillips  ) but I don't always have the small eyeglass driver on a MT, this will add to the versatility for when I don't have one :tu:

What do you mean about the removable bit adapter? The Bit Extender?

*EDIT* you mean the short bit adapter, I believe

The Removable bit adapter that fits the square shank of the regular Phillips drivers that turn them into a bit driver that will take both 1/4 inch buts and the LM flat bits  I will snap a pic of my bit kit later if I think

Removable Bit Driver: https://www.leatherman.com/removable-bit-driver-126.html
Fits over Phillips to drive bits.

Bit Driver Extender: https://www.leatherman.com/bit-driver-extender-131.html
Fits into Bit Driver to extend it.
