Could someone remind me what exactly the upshot is, of having turned the needlenose plier to a sort of snubnosed .45 version?  I try to keep up, but I just evidently didn't get the memo...

It definitely looks cool, but...still don't get it.  :-[

Thanks in advance.

Same reason why its handy to have both type of pliers in your toolbox. Needle nose for detailed work and stubby type for heavy work in confined spaces.
Surge is a hevy duty tool so some people give up the "detail work" part to have more grip in confined spaces.
Basically for all those bolts close to the wall.

OK; fair enough - I can see that.  Actually, one of the few things that would improve - at least the Surge - is somehow allowing for the pliers to open up more, for larger items.  A la Channel Locks or your basic hardware store pliers.  Having said that, not sure how they would do it - exactly...

Thanks, Matt.  Your were right too - about the edges on the new Surge.  They did improve - something I hadn't noticed out of the box.

I've been carrying my old Surge for a couple years in a Skinth and it's not a problem. Tell you the truth I don't know why people always say it's too heavy. Lots of people in the U.S. and elsewhere carry a firearm that's at least twice if not three times as heavy as a Surge. What does a cop carry on his/her belt besides a gun? What does a house framer or an electrician carry on their belts? I'll tell ya. Lots more  :pok:

One more thing from me, highly recommended and works like a charm. Can be done with surges own file:

Forgot to show off my Surge.
Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work you can always hit them with it.

I havent seen but only one of the new styles anywhere!

Same here, bro.  Seems like its been a long time between the purported release and hitting the shelves.  Must have been zillions of the old style still in the pipeline.

When I first picked up the new Surge I was shocked by its weight. Locked up the Wave and all other MTs, and EDC this new Surge for a week, I am getting use to its weight ans size. I enjoy the outside accessible scissors very much.
In compare, scissors on Wave are hidden deep inside the tool, be honest I am too lazy to dig it out for simple task.

Come on!  Put your thinkin' hat on.  If we can carry 40 lbs of excess belly fat, we can certainly carry another 12 ounces of Surge.

Easy, put away and lock up all your other MTs, don't touch or play with them.
Put Surge in 5th pocket, after a few days of carry you will get use to it.

I have a Surge with full extras that used to be a user, until I got my Swisstool Spirit and realized how a highest standard quality multitool feels like. So I'm not thrilled by the new Surge, unless it is more robust and has less play and rattle.
So, those that have used both, is the new one better and with lower manufacture tolerances?

Don't have a old surge to compare but I am pretty happy with the new one once I got use to its weight.
Sounds like I must get my hands on the swisstool to try it out.

I is much improved. Tight and smooth. Not a swisstool quality but the biggest issues have been fixed,no jamming, no rattle.
