So, it's been a year… My ramblings, and a GIVEAWAY
on: December 03, 2013, 04:40:34 PM
This is my 2000th post! :D Better make it a good one:

The 9th of December, a year ago, I registered myself here, at this forum (Look, here it is: :D http://forum.multitool.org/new-member-forum/new-member-reporting/msg658735/#msg658735 )

A lot has happened in that year, stopped with school, broke with my girlfriend, my dog died, I tried starting a new study, failed, and a lot more stuff (not all bad). Still, from the start, you were here, you terrific bunch of people. :) A steady thing in my changing life. Lots of free hours (and maybe some not-so-free hours as well…) I have spend here, gladly.

Of course, I went from just owning a Leatherman Wave to owning -many- tools, SAK's and all. Not that that's a bad thing, of course.

Still, the most important thing I wanted to say here, is thank you all, for being the most terrific bunch of people around on the internet. I usually don't fit in places so easily, but you've made it very easy for me to fit in here, and I think I can safely say I'd count a lot of you under my friends, even if I've never met you.
So, thank you all :)

Now, as thanks, for all of you, I'll hold a giveaway. I'm still looking for a good prize… But I'm sure it'll be something good :) So, you can start signing up now, and as soon as I'll find something good, I'll let you know here.

Some rules are in order, though:

A minimum post count of 500 posts is required
The giveaway will run until 7 days after I announce the prize
To make it a bit more fun, I'd like you all to tell about the most important thing you've learned in  your time here, on the forum :)
I'll use the numbers of the posts for the draw, so no need to make a list ;) (Yay! Less to go wrong :D )

That's about it :)

Again, thank you all for making this place awesome!

Great giveaway!  One of the most important things I've learned here in my time at MTO, is that in such a crazy world, there are still quite a many good people left in it. And by those, I mean our forum community.

Do I pick a number or something?  If so, ...

Congratulations my friend!!!

One thing I have learned here is that there are a bunch of standup folk here. Including yourself Bmot. (Sorry couldn't help it.) I can even say that I have made some good friends here. Most here are friendly and will go out of there way to help you out. You and among others here make this a great place. Oh yeah, and I learned some stuff about multis.

Thanks for doing a giveaway and please don't count my post. Gonna let somebody else have a chance.

First of Congrats!

As you mentioned it is easy to spend time here.  there is a real feeling of compassion that flows through this forum.  People here care.  people here help. people here support others.

as far as what I learned?

I learned that the search for tool information resulted in finding a great family that I love to hang with.

I also learned that other enthusiasts enable more spending!!
If I can help, let me know

Congratulations on your first year with MT.O! :drink:

What I've learned here...
My first MT, the SOG Crosscut, was pretty much perfect for my EDC needs.

That's leaving out all the usual gushy stuff about how great the folks are here.

Congrats, chatterbox!
 :D

I feel the same way you do about the folks here. Some of us are quite a long way away but it almost feels as if we are sitting at the same table, sharing thoughts and ideas.

Some things I've learned here:

I don't have such a big SAKs/knives/MT collection
You can take a tool apart and make it better
There's a lot of stuff around your house you can use
People are willing to help, if you just ask
New acronyms

 :salute: :tu: :D 8)

Congrats on the 2k!  Thanks for offering a gaw, that's really generous of you! :tu:

What I've learned here is that complete strangers for all over the world can join together to make a great online family. Race, religion, language, none of that matters here.

I've never before seen such a great support group either. Too many of our great members here have been through a great deal of hurt, whether loosing family and friends, to loosing jobs, or accidents. When the bad things happen, everyone stops thinking about themselves and lends a virtual hand for support.

So thanks to all here for being who you are and making this place so great!

Congrats on 2K!

I have learned a lot from this place. I learned a ton of new tings about tools I did not even know existed before I came here. I have also learned that there is a surprisingly large amoumt of genuinly nice people out there.  :)

I have learned plenty from this great forum. I had no idea this wonderful worldwide community of MT enthusiasts existed until I joined about a year and a half ago. As others have said, the community/family here is second to none. :)

but the most important thing I've learned? How to mod my Charge! :D

congrats. cool that you've hit 2k and 1 year like this

the most important thing is probably that you could start writing a country song with the year you've had.
or more importantly that there are internet communities that support it's members no matter if they buy into the same frills and shills. plus it's aloways interesting to see who'll cuss more about the Pens losing - me or CLMF, and who'll laugh more at us for that (jearsydevil usually wins that one)
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Congrats bmot, and thanks for the chance

I can't pinpoint one specific thing I've learned here as I've learned a lot.  Although one thing I will say that stands out is learning about the modding capability/community.  I still don't know if that's a good thing or not >:D  It's made me want to get into it myself so that I can mod my own MTs/SAKs to my liking, but I know that takes equipment, space and most importantly, money.

Outside of any factual MT/SAK info, the obvious:  this place has been a great place to spend much of my free time, and as you yourself said, some not so free time (like at work, like I am now >:D).  I never pictured I would get sucked into this place like I have, but I'm loving it :D

The Answer has actually won me a giveaway on here.....  :D  Congrats on double no life bmot!   What have I learned here?  When you get involved in a group of some of the most skilled enablers on the web, my SAK and multi collection starts multiplying like rabbits.  ;)  I've also made some genuine friends here, people I talk with outside of the forum.  This place really does feel like a big international family, with a lot less arguing than you'd expect if it was my actual family hanging out together......

Congrats Tom

I learned how wonderful and diverse this community is

I learned how to make my wallet cry

I learned that modding certain tools to knifeless isn't that difficult

I learned that there's some really nice folks who are just as bonkers as me

I learned that Leatherman isn't all it's hyped up to be

I learned that sometimes waterproof boots ... aren't waterproof at all

I learned how to fix my lightsabre

I learned that on the way to the UK meet there's not many places to stop for a pee

I learned that can openers can be a real contentious topic

I learned that Sparky415 is really tall

I learned that Kirk13 isn't

I learned that I can use nasal snuff to cut down and possibly stop smoking

I learned how to cook python meat and camel meat

I learned that when the world's best forum goes offline, it's OK - Micah will fix it

I learned the need to lie to the UK Postal service so that they will delivery something that's perfectly safe

I learned that some people in other countries speak my language better than I do

I learned a fair bit about tools and knives

I learned that for a two fingered typist ... I don't half prattle on .....

Part of the reason this place works Tom,is because I suspect so many of us probably don't 'fit' elsewhere! And remember,YOU are part of what helps make this place great! Congrats on the 2k,and on your first year of many!

So aside from learning I'm to blame for everything, what have I learnt?

Gerbers can be better than LMs, but Victorinox tools beat them all into a cocked hat!  Oh,and who'd have though my go to SAK would be a Wenger, most of whose functions arn't as good as a Vic!

Congrats on the milestone!

What I have learned is that I agree with others that have stated that this forum is one of the friendliest if not the friendliest I have ever been on.

I have also learned that the folks on here are very willing to share their knowledge to folks like me on subjects I didnt or dont know much about and that was very nice a appealing to me as I learned alot.  Some good and some bad as my wallet has taken such a hit since I join, I no longer carry it with me...not kidding, I dont carry it daily! LOL

Also, the folks on here are very nice and PIF to others that may inquiry about a specific item and want to try it or to someone that had lost their item and looking for something to carry or use now.  I have been on both ends of this, the giving and the receiving of items and I am sure that this concept of giving and helping others will continue on this forum as it has a great group of people here!

Thanks and sorry for rambling on! :D
