Cap Crimper PST

Are the Cap Crimper PST's a rare model ? I have just seen some BO's on ebay. After reading the forum I have now discovered riveted PST's  I am going to go blind trying to make out the rivets on the poor ebay pics, is there a easy way of spotting them? Is the lettering differences = 'POCKET SURVIVAL TOOL' , 'LEATHERMAN TOOL' & the absence of CM's on the ruler the most obvious clues to these early PST's?

The cap crimper PST in black oxide is rare, but they do show up on a regular basis. A cap crimper PST in stainless finish is an exceedingly tough jewel to find. I've let two get past me, and they are the only two I've seen.


The early riveted PST's come in two main flavors:

1) The very first ones say POCKET SURVIVAL TOOL. They generally do not have lanyard attachments. They only say LEATHERMAN on the plier pivot, not USA and not TOOL. (which is usually the best way to spot them on crappy eBay pictures)







2) The next generation of PST's with rivets have the large font LEATHERMAN on the handle. This can usually be noted in the auction photo.
