What is the smallest Wenger with a mag glass?
on: July 08, 2013, 04:01:14 AM
I think magnifying glasses are really cool on saks. The problem though is I don't want to have to buy an entire tool chest plus to get the mag glass on a Wenger. So are there any reasonably available  smaller Wenger knives with them? I know I have seen some very old thinner Wengers that had it but are there any more recent ones. All I have found so far is the j574 but that has the "my first sak blade"

I believe the smallest current production Wenger with a magnifying glass is the Micro Tool Chest, but it is fairly specialized and even more expensive than a Tool Chest Plus.

Now, if you're willing to consider a Vic, the answer is an Explorer...

Oh yes I have many vics with mag glasses but the Wenger ones elude me!

As we are on the topic of Wenger Mag glasses already, does anybody know how one would be able to get a replacement lens? I have a nice, nearly unused Wenger with a Mag layer that is good for nothing except making tiny soap bubbles or tying a big rope lanyard to the knife...

BTW: It´s an 1.23.13 and the smallest i could find with a MAG doing a quick search.

There's also the Wenger Major, same as above but with a nail file rather than the small clip blade.

But I don't have a name or catalog number for it.
Wenger did sell (long ago) replacement lenses, but they were made by plastic and not glass.
I did find one in a shop and was able to put it back in a knife without problems (only some little sanding on the border).

If all else fails, what about getting a credit card sized fresnel lens (thin plastic lens people keep in wallets as an eyesight aid), cut it to shape, and cement it in.
Cheap, and effective, if non-original.

I have indeed bought a few cheap Childs toys with lenses in them for this purpose and i was going to go to an optician this afternoon to have him quote me a price for making a fitting lens when this thread hit my eyes. Shows that you only need to ask around on MTO.  :tu:

I just ordered a 574, I hope they have it in stock.  It seems pretty nifty:
