Linsky's WireLess routers
on: May 21, 2008, 01:23:58 AM
Remember a few months ago, I asked what's the best wireless router? And many of you said that Netgear is superior? Well, I guess I should have listened to you guys. I bought a Linksy's and I have to reset the stupid thing constantly. Also, when I do this my Vonage shuts down. I think I have to get rid of Vonage too.

I have some suggestions that may help.  I used to have the same problem.  If it is a wireless b or g type change the channel because if someone in the area is using the same channel they overlap on channels 1, 6, and 11 I believe.  You may also want to upgrade the firmware from the menu on the router itself.  When the n routers become widespread (ie cheaper) that is what I would like as this type does not have overlapping channels.  Hope this is of some help.

I've never had a problem with any Linksys wifi routers I've installed for my clients. Definitely check that you have the latest firmware www.linksys.com , which can be obtained and loaded into your router easily. Try a different channel, and if you have a 2.4GHz cordless phone that could be interfering with the router.

I've never had a bit of trouble with Linksys, especially using DD-WRT firmware.

I've got Linksys and Vonage and haven't had any trouble at all...

With routers, more than with any other pieces of hardware, it's all the game of probablilities. I've seen Linksys, Netgears, and D-Links die or start to misbehave. Linksys seems to be more stable, on average. A good, if unscientific, method of determining stability is that it is inversely proportional to te number of "refurbished" units available for sale (on eBay, for example).
Since your router is only 1 month old, you should have no problem exchanging it at the store.

I have never tried one, but as Netgear has been recommended by quite a few, including myself, why gamble on something different again?
