Built Quality on MP400.
on: May 23, 2021, 03:25:07 PM
Hi, I am considering the MP400. How's the built quality on the MP400? Is it easy to deploy the tools like scissors etc? Had the Dime before but built quality isn't that good. Also consider the Center Drive but it's more pricey and  bigger MT. Appreciate some advice. Currently I hv the LM Wave + Vic Swisstool Spirit X. So, would like to try out Gerber.Thanks.

The MP400 is rather more primitive than especially the Spirit, but also the wave, but not necessarily worse off for that reason. What it lacks is finesse, but the actual build quality is superb; it's a very tough MT

I also own a Spirit and up until recently a Wave but it's my 400 that I've been carrying for a good long time, and here's for why;

One hand deployment of the pliers - very handy

Excellent tolerances - it rattles and clicks, but very rarely gets cluttered with lint, dust, grit etc

Easily modified - you can easily take it apart and add or remove tools depending on your tastes or local laws.

The Fiskars scissors - IMO they are as good as Vic scissors and much better than LM's

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the 400 to anyone - great little MT that can hold it's own with any of the big boys, providing you don't mind the lack of finesse.

I agree in every point with Mags.

I've been throwing my MP-400 in a multitude of tasks and It never let me down. (Oil, grease and all kind of thing that you can find in a machine)
Reliable, sturdy, pliers are easy to deploy.
Great tool for the size.

There aren't many tools that have made it all the way through the Clone Wars intact, but the MP400 is one of them  :salute:

Like the others pointed out it is a great tool. You might find though that it is hit and miss if you can find a new one with no issues.

The last one i bought was great out of the box. The one before had misalligned pliers and on another one i had to fix the wirecutters. They were so tight, the pliers would not close all the way. Gerber could and should do massive improvements of their QC. That being said, i still like the MP series  :D

I have one that Mags super kindly gave me. It's as he described, primitive finish and rattles, but everything Just WorksTM. :hatsoff:
It's in a three-way tie with my 20-ish year old Leatherman Kick and my Swisstool. All three are Top in different ways. :tu:
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

I have an MP450 and an MP400 (as well as a couple different MP600s and a Center Drive). Gerber tools can be completely packed with dirt and crud and will still work. My SwissTool will foul with mild dirt and dust.

Oh yes! Nothing can stop a well equiped and determined clone!
Fives (CT-5555) discovered that plot! (Domino squad rocks)
You can use the MP400 to rewire some medical droids and make them remove the chip.
(Or go on the hardest way and use the MP400 to remove the chip. I believe that Gregor made some mistake trying this way)

My faithfull MP400 on picture

Congrats on your new CD, but I would still recommend a 400. You definitely won't regret it
