Can someone help me to identify that knife?
on: February 06, 2014, 07:13:49 PM
Hello there,

I found a knife in my dresser that I thought was long lost. I brought it on a cowboy and western festival in the surrounding of the city Saarbrücken, when I was still in elementary school (maybe I was 8 or 9 years old). I don't know why there was a cowboy/western festival in Germany but I remember that I thought that it was really cool. :D
Can anyone tell me if it's a good one or just a cheapo? Even if it has "china" engraved, it still could be something good, I think.
Some days ago I sharpened the knife and it got quit sharp. For some reason unknown to me, the point is a bit bent.

It's a cheapo. You can buy them for 3€ or less mostly. It's a smaller copy of of the most copied knife design in history, the Buck 110.

I've got pretty much exactly the same knife sitting in a box somewhere.  I got mine as a kid as well and it was much loved at the time. :dd:  As enki says, it a much scaled down version of the Buck 110.  OK, so it's not worth anything, but as long as you like it then that doesn't really matter.  :tu:

I remember I bought about 4 or five of those when I was a teen. Still have a few beaten ones around somewhere. THey were bad though. The blade couldn't hold an edge, the pins weren't done properly so it kept coming apart, and the backlock mechanism didn't provide any protection from closing. I thought they were very cool back then. ;)

Well, we managed to get it razing sharp with my Lansky (but it did tug a bit on my arm  ::)), we will see how well the edge holds.
Could you name us a comparitable knife of better quality? It is smaller than a Buck 110, but seems to fit her hand well.

Buck 112, the smaller brother (or maybe sister ;) ) of the 110. Puma made a few as did a few other manufacturers. We had a thread about those recently. I'll try to find it.

Here's the thread. http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=49362

I thought there were more replies in it but you get good clues what to search for.

Great knife.  I had one of those for a long time, went to a friend of mine who needed a solid folder for work.  Gotta get me another one.....

Here is one I have had for maaaaaaany years, with a Buck 110.

Schrade also made a copy, as did other western and eastern companies.
