Yellow vs stayglow
on: March 10, 2010, 04:48:13 PM
Is there a sharp difference between yellow and stayglow scales?  I'd expect the stayglow to be more vibrant and neon-like.  Does anyone have a yellow and stayglow they can photograph side by side?

a good question, I've wondered why get "just" yellow when you can get stayglows

I'm sure the color variations are different but...

Stayglo doesn't match my Jeep....

Seriously, the Stayglo is a bit more vibrant than the yellow, and keeps it's color longer, while the yellow tends to get tiny nicks in it that accumulate pocket lint and other dirt making them look slightly darker after time.  This has little to do with the color so much as the increased resiliency of the nylon over cellidor scales.

Stayglow is made of nylon?  I thought it was just a special color of the original cellidor
So the nylon is more wear resistant you say...

I looked at stock online pictures of the two but there's always lighting factors and graphic touch-ups they do to make it look more appealing(kinda like how McDonald's makes their food look notvile and putrid), so I was hoping someone had the two for a side-by-side.

Stayglo is on my "need to get" list. Yellow isn't. Just wish they'd make 91mm Stayglo plus scales. How long does the "glow" last on the stayglos anyway? Do they glow pretty well?

They'll glow for a couple hours and then get dimmer and dimmer.  I used to read by mine at night while the wife was sleeping.  When it got too dim it was time to put the book down.

the stuff Vic uses is great! with a good bright light charge it lasts quit awhile and fades very slowly.

and talk about bright! you've probably had "glow in the dark" stuff before but Vic's stayglows are far superior!

These are all high res photos so click the zoom in button or magnifier button. You can see clearly that the standard yellow scales have a much deeper yellow color but as mentioned before when they get scuffed up they look darker or dirty yellow. The stayglow scales are new unused and you can clearly see the texture of the nylon scales and the brightly printed shield. The shield is subject to scratches and it will show wear over time but the scales as a whole hold up to some pretty tough EDC wear before they will look rather dirty. Hope this helps you make a choice, OH and NO the scales are not for sale. :pok: :P
