Really good to see these, cheers for sharing North Man.  I'm rather surprised to see the 120mm Rangers, I thought that line was a goner for sure.

It might sound odd, but I am rather sorry to see the Wenger can opener gone. :-\  Yes, the Vic style one adds the screwdriver, but I liked the Wenger one for it's sharp edge and point.  Ah well.

+1 to this.  I've found the Wenger can opener to be a great multi-purpose pokey thing (MPPT), and also a bit easier for me to use as a lefty.  As a can opener it gets used atl least once a day at the store to open tint cans.  The loss of the small screwdriver didn't bother me one bit as I've had a Craftsman 4-way driver on my keys for ages.  As to the 120mm line, I've yet to handle one that was lefty-friendly in terms of OHO.....

I'm another one that mourns the loss of Wenger's can opener. The extra driver is nice but I much prefer the usefulness of wenger's opener, I also dislike the lack of the locking cap lifter/flat head ...

Maybe Victorinox will incorporate a liner-locking cap-lifter/pry-tool in to the 130mm Rangers... now that would be an advancement.   That's a killer features of their 111mm line.

At the North American Meetup, I'm going to supply a bunch of cans and have people try opening with a Vic opener (after a tutorial on usage) and the Wenger opener.  I believe all righties and a significant number of lefties will end up agreeing the Vic is the superior opener.

I open a #10 can of green beans nearly every day with a SAK.  The Vic is significantly faster, using the right technique (cutting the lid on each up and down stroke).

Interesting.  I must say I'm not too good with the can opener.  Yesterday I opened to small tins of mushrooms, and still found it difficult once beyond 1/2 way or so and the lid gets floppy.  I've never tried cutting on both strokes though.  I'll try to see if I can do that on the next can I open.

I remember you mentioning this before, did you have a video of your method?  Im ok with the opener, but certainly not going to win any speed trials.  :D

Nope, a righty here, plenty of usage of both can openers and I still prefer the wenger one. :P

This size can?

The gauge of steel is much greater than a standard #2 (like a typical can of soup) and the Wenger opener ends up leaving a raggedy edge as well as taking longer.

I like both can openers. For me, vics can opener belongs on there frame, and the old type belongs on a wenger.

I'll try to do a test myself soon. Maybe not the same size as we probably have different sizes here but I'll try to make it as close as I can. :salute:

A little pricey and big, but twice as fast.

I believe that in the end the can opener thing is more of personal preference than ultimate betterness.

So far I think these are overall improvements. I like the vic awl, and I like the inclusion of a screwdriver on the vic can opener. I'm questioning some of these though. Will they really make a competitor to the classic? Probably not. And are these 91mm evos or 85mm?

Hmmm, does the blade edge go all the way to the tang on the new ranger?  That would be cool.

You guys eat too much canned food, opening a bag of frozen beans is way faster, I can do it in under 5 seconds, with my teeth

You know what Vic should do in 2014?

Create a new 111mm design that uses the Wenger style pushbutton lock release.

I have an idea of my own for a prototype.  Remember the recycled material handles on the Mike Horn Lockblade?
put that handle material on an OHT.
