Hi Guys

I have two knives at the moment on which I need to straighten the main blades.

One is a very old Indian pocket knife that I am restoring - Hopefuly some pics when I have finished.
The main blade is bent- Please see the pictures. I put a small nut in the gap to show how much it needs to move.
It is the mainblade that has the problem as it rubs up against the liner when you close it.

I have not worked out yet how to put the pictures where I want them in the post so I think they are all going to appear at the bottom

The second is a red Wenger Soldier.
This one has a small, annoying problem - Which I have tried to show it pics.
When you open the awl the main blade slides across a little towards the outside liner - so it is in line with the awl's tang. When you start to close the awl the main blade moves across even more and prevents the awl from closing - blunting its tip in the meantime of course.
The Wenger pictures are pretty crap - But hopefuly you know what I mean!!

I figured heat of some sort, leaving it clamped bent in the 'right' direction for 24hrs etc etc
But I dont know and I dont want to damage/snap them or bend them too much the wrong way  :twak:

Anyway I figured you clever modders out there would know what to do    :tu:

Thanks  guys
Respnses and advice much appreciated.

From straightening SAK blades Ive had the best luck with sharp short blows with a plastic mallot.  I clamp the blade in a padded vice and whack with a mallet.  Bending a blade 5-10 degrees that way works just fine.
PM me or email sakmodder [at] gmail . com if you are looking for custom SAK work.

Carefully, VERY carefully. :P

It's quite easy to snap the blade while bending it back. I would clamp it in a vice (with some cardboard or leather padding to protect the scales) and bend slightly, check, bend again, check, ... Do not use too much force or it will snap. Do not use a hammer or pliers. Tape the blade with packaging tape so you don't cut yourself and try bending it back in small increments with your hands.

Do it only if it's absolutely necessary as breaking the blade it a big possibility.

It's how I'd progress with this problem but I know we have members who have dealt with this problem more times than I did. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong or offer some more advice. :salute:

EDIT: and Syph007 bet me to it. :P He's got more experience in bending blades too. ;)

Thanks very much Guys

Both options sounds a wee bit scary.... especially the mallet Syph007  :o

Particularly as both blades are completely irreplaceable.
The Wenger as it has it's 64 tang stamp, and the other one as it is a very very old knife...

But I will go ahead taking your counsel - Maybe try the enki_ck option first!!

Thanks again
