Olympic Games 2014 - Sotsji
on: February 08, 2014, 10:58:35 AM
So, anyone else following the Olympic Games that started yesterday? I know it'll probably be difficult to see much live, for those of you living on the wrong side of the ocean :P

Just saw that the USA has the first gold medal of the games, Sage Kotsenburg (or something like that) won the "slopestyle" snowboarding  :tu: , A Canadian came in third, a Norwegian second.

I'm on the right side of the ocean, the coverage in Spain is pretty pathetic. Even though it's on the TVE Sports channel, it's not all day coverage... in fact right now is cross country ski, after this tennis...

I looked at the ice hockey schedule, and it looks like we're not going to see hardly any of the team Canada games, with exception to the semis/finals...

 :ahhh :bnghd:

Ice skating, biathlon and nothing much else regarding the Olympic games today. Which is weird case I have the Sports package on my IPTV. :-\ It's still early though, i hope we get better coverage as more events take place.

I can watch anything when it's held via the broadcaster's website... Maybe you can do that as well?

Anyway, being Dutch, speed skating is a pretty big thing for us :) Got quite a real chance on getting all medals on the 5000 meter :) Watching that now.

Since tennis was rained out they put the USA-FIN womens hockey game.

Then I was watching CAN-SWI womens hockey via TVE's website and just as they started coming back from the 2nd intermission it switched to bobsleding  :ahhh

Pretty good coverage here.  Congratulations to the 40 year old Norwegian (who's name I not even going to try and spell) on winning the biathlon, giving him 12 Olympic medals. :salute:  Possibly more to come as well.

My wife has been waiting four years for the curling matches to start. ::) I must admit that I like watching them too. The Olympics is the only time we get to see curling here in the U.S.

Finally, someone who shares my interest in Curling. The Olympics is literally the only time I ever see it televised where I live as you said.

Curling is fun to watch.  :tu:  I was at college during the 1998 Nagano games, and we had the CBC on the cable where I went to school.  There was a LOT of curling, and to someone who had never seen it before it was facinating.

Well would you believe it?  The UK wins our FIRST EVER medal on snow. :ahhh  We've won stuff on ice, but this is apparently our first ever downhill snow medal.  Can you tell we don't really ski in the UK all that much?

Anyone see that Russian figure skater? Shes like 14 and destroyed everyone in the first round (I think). Incredible athlete for her age.

You mean Ole Einar Bjørnedalen?  :D Did I just out myself as a Biathlon fan?  :o Or as a Scandinavia fan? :ø
Here in Germany the coverage is pretty good (One thing the national TV gets right) but yesterday and today I helped my dad fix a broken waterpipe, under the parkett floor, encased on all sides by other pipes. I mostly worked there and heard the TV announcer from time to time. I hope I can see some more in the next days.

Currently the only television channel I get that is broadcasting olympics is back to tennis.

On the streaming site out of 8 live feeds they claim to have, there are 5 broadcasting, one of which is tennis , one is an ondemand news recap, one is a rebroadcast of an event that is already over, one is a reair of a 2010 Vancouver olympics event, and the last is actually speed skating. (which ironically was Speed Skaying on the EPG last night...)

There are separate ondemand channels, so I do not understand why the live channels are rebroadcasting... :ahhh

I'm not really following the games. I like the summer Olympic more.
But I hear radio at work, so I can't get off it.
Today I once more had to witness that German sport journalists are the worst that ever happen
One of our female athletes was winning gold and at the radio there was the journalist getting really exciting! The American was the last doing the super combination and the journalist "Will it be America or will it be Germany? It's black-red-gold! Gold! Gigantic-Gold! Gold for Maria Höfl-Riesch!!" What's gigantic-gold supposed to mean?!? O.o
My co worker was sitting in his room hearing the same radio channel and I saw him looking up, then to me and then doing the wiper (well, I'm not sure if you guys understand that. It's a gesture where you put your hand before your face and wipe it up and down like a wiper that means "how dump" or "you idiot". I was searching for nearly an hour on Google for a good translation but didn't find ANYthing useful! Please! If you know what I mean and now the English word, please tell me!).
