Sleeve for Leatherman Surge file / saw, & more
on: February 08, 2014, 06:00:49 PM
The sleeve comes with Surge is weak and it is not cover by their warranty.
So I am going to show you how to make one that fit your need with duct tape.

The finish product is 2" wide, it will not fit into you Surge sleeve.

I carry it in my M4 magazine/iPhone pouch.

What you need to start: Duct tape, electrical tape, ruler, scissors, sharpie.

Step 1: Start with a little over 7" of duct tape

Step 2: place 2 pieces of electrical tape over the duct tape, sticky side to sticky side. place them carefully. If you mess it up, you will need to start over.

Step 4: cut the OPEN end, so the remaining part of tape is about 3.25" long.

At this point, your basic sleeve for just the file & saw blade is completed.

Step 5: Start with another piece of duct tape, about 3" long. Place a piece of electrical tape (trimmed cut to 0.5" wide) over.

Step 7: attach it to the sleeve we completed earlier, line up the electrical tape with the bottom of sleeve, then fold it over.

Step 8: Completed! Insert file, saw blades, long bit into the sleeve.

Use sharpie to blacken the edge if you feel it is necessary.
Use more duct tape to enforce the sleeve if you feel it is necessary.

If you wish to carry a mini eyeglass screwdriver bit with you, you can do so by repeating step 5,6 & 7.

You might ask why would you want to carry a eyeglass screwdriver bit when the New Surge has no small bit holder.
Because you still can use the small bit without the holder!

First post on this forum, absolutley amazing and innovative. Best thing is you dont need any special tools or skills- just good old duct tape!

There is no substitute for duct tape!

Good and clear DIY-post. Might even be usable for other stuff. Thank you very much!

The one came with Surge? I suggest you enforce it with electrical tape.
I tried keep the blades in wallet but it doesn't work for me, I use a ultra light / thin wallet.

Yeah I have a dockers wallet a leather hipster type its not as thick as a regular wallet as long as you don't carry unnecessary cards. Its square  like a,napkin I like though and I will do that with the tape to reinforce it.

since my factory sleeve sits pretty neatly in the skinth i haven't experienced too much wear yet, but i'm still robbing a bit of gaffe tape from my secret roll to make something like this for when it does.  it's very cool, what you have made.

Remade.

Looks like you made it into a fold-over style to carry extra blades? Or is it just a cover?

I added a large flap to cover the entire sleeve, keep the t-shank at bay.
And it slides in n out easier without interfering with other items, this case, the Croc.
