Here is a example of a Buck/Camillus Barlow. These were an exclusive for Smokey Mountain Knife Works  around the late 1990s to 2000.

The tip is not broken. I cut it off in the photo. :-[

Nice. Despite the fact that they are in fashion now, and are thus made in some expensive versions, Barlows are best/purer in their basic workingmans knife versions

Very true.  That's one reason I like the RR Barlows so much.  Nothing special, just solid everyday users. :tu:

I opted for a two blade GEC Palo Santo wood TC Barlow this time.

(Image removed from quote.)

The wood used is "magic" as it looks different depending on how light is reflected on it.

Came with a suede protective pouch.

Overall:

Nice, unusual, wood,
Good finish.
Halfstop
The backsprings are nearly flat at all 3 positions where  the blade stops

Surprisingly easy pull, similar to a Wenger.. Approaching "too easy".  I never expected to get a GEC with such an easy opening blade (both blades were equally easy to open)

The problem is that the Dollar to Euro ratio is making  the knife 50% more expensive than it was/should be, lessening the desire to buy more, until their price in Euro gets lower.

Damn! Gourgeous knife! I like the smooth handles, the blades shape. Even the name looks like it's made for me!

:ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

If you want a good Barlow to enjoy a cheap RR, Camillus etc.  in SS is the best choice.

Once you start buying the more expensive variants you will find faults that should not be there for the price, you worry about collectibility, loosing or damaging the knife, getting it wet....   I said it before, that the only GEC I am really happy with is (are) a Bullnose, that was actually an EDC (sort of second) grade. With all the rest there is always something that should have been made better (easily).. The issue with most knives is usually with natural materials, general QC/QA, so buy something with plastic covers...

Thanks.  :salute:  I wish that side was as pretty as the "pile" side.  I really like the mottling of the dye, the saw marks and the marrow channel.:

a Kellogg's knife or TC Barlow a new day

Stiffer than usual for the TC line, with a hard pull, approaching nailbreaker level.
The wood is dark brown, rather than Black, so there is some nice grain there.

The butterknife style blade is unusual, but may be what some people have been looking for, for some time.
A new day begins, you (if you are single) butter your toast.....  :D

14 Lick Creek Barlow, from GEC, build on the 14 rather than the usual 15 frame.

If you like the size, the standard lick creek, single blade, is half the price of the SFO Barlow.

With my RA, the #15 frame is about my lower limit on usability. I Like the #85 as well but usually go for bigger knives like the #23 and #53. I need to get all the GEC out and shoot a pic.
