Translucent lot of 58mm on eBay
on: March 02, 2014, 07:40:25 PM
This one is not my auction, just saw this.  Obviously hard to tell with used knives, but I'm almost positive that one of these is a pretty rare brown/rust translucent color.

They're used and look all beat up and scratched to hell. I'd give'm a nickel for them...

True, they are pretty beat up... but I've had success polishing up beat scales in the past.

For example the brown in this picture was a used one I polished up:

The brown from what I've been told is actually Onxy that's faded over time. Wish the dark Onxy was darker, it's not really black just a dark brown. If anyone with want to correct me...
I like my little collection as well...

How do you polish your SAKs?

You could be right...  I've sometimes thought it might be a faded Purple too as there's a certain purple-ish hue to it too.

I've also thought the light blue was a faded dark blue too.

Not sure why my picture isn't showing up either right now... it's from the SAKWiki.

After further review, I'm going to say that I'm 99% sure that the "brown" really is just faded Onyx.

I was looking at my collection of colored SAKs last night and was surprised that I couldn't find my Onyx among the others.  After searching for a while (there's only 32 knives in this display case... can't be that hard, can it?!?), I discovered that I was seeing a light brown and a dark brown.  Hmm...  I think I'll start storing that display upside down to avoid light and future fading.

That would have been a nice set to get.  I bought a similiar one but not as complete.
