OK, so initial impressions.  The bit driver seems fantastic!  The MT is very comfortable in my hand when using the bit driver.  The inside tools are easy to get to, and the spring loaded pliers help with that.  They also have a nice snap when closing them.

The main blade though...  The thumb hole had very sharp edges, to the point I was worried about cutting my thumb.  I used the diamond file on my TTi to smooth them out, but it still needs a bit of work.  The lock is also very hard to engage.  It won't engage just by opening it with my thumb, I have to really pull back on the blade.  The lock doesn't slide very far either, only about half the thickness of the lock slides over the blade.

Overall I think the CD will be a big hit for me.  I'll give it a good workout, and report my findings later on.

Thanks again to Grant, MTO and Gerber!!  :hatsoff:

Yeah, it's a really interesting blade shape. I forget why the bit you stick in the cut is brass, I'll ask my dad next time i call him - he knows these sort of things.

I just got a free sub, the Mrs fig if she made a batch of cookie for the older kid it would get her to walk further to drop them off for him and the others at his work, which she did, and the manager told the kid to make your parents free subs, hey I wasn’t going to complain..

What do you have planned for that Al  ?

I'm refurbishing some old razors at the moment Steve. I've actually been camping out on a different forum while I do so, as that's where the relevant info is. One of them is an auto-stropping Wilkinson Sword Empire model, but it didn't come with a strop. I modified a GEM single edge blade to take it for a test shave today, and it was good enough to try to reclaim and rehone the teeny little hollow ground blades that should go in there. I've tapped someone for info and pics on the strop on the other forum, and now need to cut one out, and skive it down from 2.4mm to about 1.2mm. I might need to give it some neatsfoot oil treatment to give it a little more flex too.

Another of the razors is a Darwin Hollow Ground, which is kind of similar to the more common Rolls Razor (which I also have in refurb). The Rolls looks like it should reclaim quite well in terms of it's strop, but the integral strops on the Darwin might need replacing if I can't salvage them.

I'm also considering making a travel case for a DE razor.

Cool project Al !  :hatsoff:

Cheers Steve,

There was a fourth razor, but that one may have turned out to be a non-starter. I am confident that I can get the other three back to full shave capability though. The last one in the project is a Sheffield made open razor (straight razor, cut throat, whatever you want to call it). I'm going to get that one rehoned, and possibly put some teak scales on it. I want to try to avoid giving it a full polish though, as I want to leave as much patina on it as possible.

Hey that looks familiar,,
JR

Yeah, I forgot to mention that one or two of our MTO clan have already had a sneak peek into the progress  :D I'm a bit miffed that the Rally fizzled out JR, but I'm still going to keep an open mind about improvising another blade for it. The main ones that I'm bothered about though are the two Sheffield made ones - the open razor, and the Darwin

At last! The leather caddy that Nix made for me--while he was still doing his 30 day Pioneer X challenge--has arrived! Now my own PX has a home. Can't wait to get home and try it!

Nix was also kind enough to throw in a small EDC light!

Wow. I'm deeply touched and forever grateful, Jack, aka Nix!
