Luck with a local hardware store sale.........
on: March 07, 2014, 07:04:09 PM
Hi,

for the past week a local hardware store has been selling everything at 50% off to make room for removations. I picked up a Bosch battery drill there on monday (GSR 10,8-2-LI), as I was passing today I noticed a "70% off everything" sigh out the front!

There wasn't much interesting left, but I noticed a Victorinox box on the shelf behind the counter and asked to see it, it was a Victoinox "1.8802.LT Duo transp. red. Lite" (from the label with the barcode).

I asked about the price at 70% off, the girl checked the barcode, looked a bit confused and said "how about 200 kroner?" (that's US$33.45!). of course I said "o/k" with a smile

Both knives look new and the LED in the small knife is bright, there's a bit of oil discolouration on the box insert but for that price who cares?!

Is this set a current production item? Is is very collectable (scarce?).

So what do you guys think, not bad for $33.45 eh?!

My wife just said "you already have lots of knives".......... can't explain aything to some people!

cheers,

-John

I wouldn't call it rare but a SwissChamp and a Signature lite for $33? :ahhh

You scored. :2tu:

They seem to retail for about a $140 as far as I can see from stores that still have them available.

That is a result on the SAK's, how come I never see these mythical 70% off deals?
BTW, I have one of those little 10.8v Bosch GSR's, it is a very nice little drill-driver. Enjoy.

Sorry guys, about the only other things on the shelf were some Maglites, older non-LED models.

One thing I wanted to check out there was a super nice quality knife display case on the wall on monday, about 2' x 2-1/2' and made from 8mm perspex with very solid hinges and a nice lock, just what I wanted, I was going to make an offer on it and today saw it was gone, "thrown into the junk container yesterday" they said!:(

cheers,

-John

This summer at the local flea market I picked up a SAK off a table and the guy behind it says, "That's a fake.  There's no such thing as a metal handled Swiss Army Knife".  I told him I'd take it for $5.  He agreed, and I walked off with a brand-new Wenger SI.  :D

O/k another knife, this time for free............

a couple of years ago my parents had a swiss friend and his father staying for a few days. At the dinner table conversation eventually turned to SAKs, each bringing onto the table at least two knives. Dad brought out three or four and so did I. The father of my dad's friend said something in swiss german and his son looked at me and said that his father asked if I wanted his old knife from his time in the military....... I said that I'd love to have it

They returned to Switzerland and a few weeks later this nice 1949 dated M1908 Wenger arrived in the post......

cheers,

-John

Hi Billy,
yes, I really like the GSR 10,8-2-LI too; I needed to buy a new battery for my old Bosch drill but it was around $50 for an original.

With 50% off, the GSR 10,8-2-LI only cost me $116 (inc. 2 x batteries).

The GSR 10,8-2-LI motor has more torque and is 300 rpm faster (in 2nd gear) than my old drill and has the LED light and battery indicator. I like the smaller size too (it's a perfect fit in a nice Underwater Kinetics case I had (not the huge charger though).

cheers,

-John

I have one of those drills, was so impressed with it that I bought the matching impact driver. It's only a light duty tool but very handy.

I've got the single speed screwdriver with the 1/4 hex bit holder (the old one basically) and the older model impact driver, love them to bits. Both bought second hand from ebay.
I liked them enough to then buy a set of new 18V Bosch units so the little impact driver doesn't get much use any more sadly :(

I then managed to persuade the farm to pick up the more powerful 18V unit as a replacement for the Ryobi ones we were using. There was some muttering about price at the time but that evaporated after about a week of use and now all the power tools we buy are Bosch Blue. They're just really nice to use and not too badly priced for the quality.

A couple days ago, a friend at work told me he saw a Swiss knife display in a furniture store, in a very small village near me. I tought it was a strange place for selling swiss knives(and possible interesting finds I tought) There were two NIB Vic soldiers 2008 there. At 40$, I took them both....not a bad deal at all  I think.

All the others knife were recent regular productions, at msrp price

If I ever came across a deal like that I would buy them even if it was to save and give them as presents.
