Wow, you guys in UK are screwed

I must be the only Brit on here who is still proud to be English

Nope i'm still proud of who i am Yes I'm disappointed that the few spoil some of it for the majority but we still have a lot of good going for us

Those are pretty much my thoughts as well.  There are still parts of this country that are great, but some areas are pretty awful.  I guess everywhere has it's bad places though.

This kind of paranoia isn't limited to the UK though- a couple of months ago a woman was harassed by the TSA in the US regarding her nipple rings.  She was told she had to remove them before proceeding through security.

Remember the three important things to remember when dealing with security people:

1.  Many security people are security guards because no one else will hire them.  Often, folks who are security are either trying to join the police force, or they are not qualified to work at McDonalds, and as such, may feel the need to assert themselves constantly.  This is bad for you because they see everyone as potential to increase their own ego.

2.  Intelligent security officers (there are some, just you never hear about them as they are doing the job correctly) often have to enforce stupid rules passed down from some overpaid idiot above them.  This is bad for you because these officers know it's dumb, but if they want their paycheques, they have to do this.  They are frustrated at being made to pointlessly harass folks, and you describing their ancestry in colorful terms doesn't help the situation.

3.  All of what you see is window dressing.  Smoke and mirrors, harassing kids about t shirts or 90 year old women about knitting needles does nothing to ensure the safety of passengers, airlines, airplanes, airports or anything else.  It is designed to make people think they are safe because strict security measures are in place.  This is bad for you because it is a colossal waste of time, and is extremely expensive. The cost of all this bull crap is added to your taxes and your fares.

I wish it all happened in the UK- then we could avoid the UK and be done with it (UK members could emigrate- I'll set you all up with a cot in the basement if you need it! ) but it's a worldwide phenomenon.  I see the same thing in all the airports I visit, and although I rarely venture outside of North America, I doubt most places are any different.

As for Santa coming only once a year, remember he's a heavy set old man, and can probably only manage it once a year.  It's not so bad though as he only comes on Christmas Eve, and I can say Eve would be my choice as well...
