Kydex belt sliders

I posted this picture on another thread but thought I would put this in its own thread as well and ask you mutlitool.org guys if you have done any Kydex belt sliders for your SAKS, I'm going to be making a few combo sliders for a trekker, pliers or trekker and multi tool. Just started messing with kydex after I was tired of paying somebody else big $$$ for holsters and belt sliders. I may start making these now for friends and such now I have new style rivets that hold up better than the thin cap rivets I used on these two pieces.

One idea I had was to make a combo slider that a sharpie would go into, cap would be retained in the slider so when you need the sharpie pulling it out would pull the cap off.

I need to try and work with some Kydex. Is it expensive?
I'm in need of an under the belt compact holster nothing on the market fits the bill.

Depending on the thickness and grade you get it can be fairly cheap (I got mine in bulk for $3 per square foot).

The nice thing is you can tune the retention, Its not like leather were it shrinks and stretches and wears in, there is a actual "clicking" into place the various objects you mold kydex to have when "re-holstered". The spirit in my picture is actually a horizontal carry set up I made to try out. Not happy with it only because it "droops" on the belt a bit and catches  on boxes and seat belts. but the next one I make will be vertical. I have almost always carried my trekkers in kydex belt sliders and never lost a one. The only thing that may be hard to get retention on are items that have no disruption in their shape, but even then they will have some "stay put" with the sandwiching of the kydex if its done right.

I kinda got the theory of how the kydex works, but I switch between knives, and there all different size sak to top it off. Awhile ago I bought a flashlight(surefire) that wasn't a common size(meaning it wasn't a maglite) and I needed a combo sheath, the only ways I was going to get one was to have one custom made, and that was to much $$! So I started puttsing around with a nylon/canvas like material, I basically ripped apart a funky bag and cut to size and stitched back up, worked great, but I wanted leather, so I started getting into leather, nothing big but got the hang of it, and threw an ugly leather combo holster, one that would fit both my surefire and I think LM wave at the time. Again nothing special, but it was leather, I got a new flashlight and needed a new, better sheath and came up with the idea of making a combo pancake holster, so I made it to size and I'll tell you what, that thing was great, yeah the leather warn in, but that thing was great! Anyway I've kinda grown up, I don't need the BIG and bad flashlight and I've even gone back to a sak rather then a leatherman, I've even ditched the leather and went back to nylon. I keep thinking of the kydex, but that means I gotta ditch the mini notepad, pen, and toothpick holder if I do, no? Keep us up to date with your work! JR

P.S. No I didn't throw away the old sheaths, just ditched them into the storage drawer! Unlike the wife said who the trash! lol..
