Thanks for posting that.  I think it could be very useful as long as it holds its edge.

That is a neat knife.  I can see it useful for a variety of chores.

Here is one I haven't carried in a little while.  Dpx HEST.  Great knife and tough as nails.  I bought a sheath for it but I dont like it so I used an old purse to make this leather one.

I like my H.E.S.T. too, but I can't wear it because of the sharp pry tool at the end of the handle.  Last time I wore it I gouged a hole in the upholstery just sitting on the couch.   I think it should have come with a full flap sheath like the older Buck 103 skinners.  In fact, I've been looking for an older Buck 103 sheath to try it out.

I agree.  One model did come with a sheath like you mention.  I cannot recall which one tho.  I'm sure tho you can find what you're looking for.

I really like that knife. Is it my imagination, or is the handle getting darker with use?

I've been carrying the Buck 113 Ranger since I got it almost 2 months ago and I need to carry something else.  Of course, I couldn't put it away without putting it through my castaway challenge where I use the knife in question to open a coconut.  I chose a sprouted coconut because the solid core of a sprouted coconut is a nice treat that is, in texture, rather like eating a coconut flavored apple.  First step is to cut off the top of the coconut.  Next I cut the husk into segments that can be peeled away from the nut.  Finally I crack open the nut and enjoy my prize.  Unfortunately it tasted horrible.  I think I just waited to long to open this one and it was beyond edible.  I did save the baby coconut palm which I potted, so it wasn't a total loss.  In any case, I determined that if I was stranded on a tropical island with the Buck 113 I could open coconuts so I wouldn't starve.

Schrade USA 152 Scrimshaw series.  This one has a whale on one side and a tall ship on the other.  The blade is not the normal 152 shape, having been reshaped by a previous owner.  I've seen a number of older 152s that have been reshaped as this one has, and it is most likely due to breaking off the tip.

I realize now the seax is sitting on a potted cactus, but I didn't recognize what I was looking at at first.  I thought that was a bowl of food of some kind and had to ask myself what the hell is he eating?

:D  It also has my burnt incense sticks in it.  That little fella is pink with some other colors and grows so slow.  Its also in the shade about half the day.

The more I carry a Schrade Sharp Finger the more I like it.  This one has been on my hip for the last 3 weeks.  Before that I carried the Brisa Necker 70, the Buck 113, the Wissahickon Critter, and the ESEE JG3 for about a week each.  The thing about the Sharp Finger is it is so easy to carry and it feels natural to use it in place of a folder for so many tasks, which I believe is the point of an EDC fixie.  Yesterday I forgot my multitool and SAK in the house so I didn't have an awl with me.  :twak: I used the Sharp Finger to bore a hole in the side of a plastic planter that was retaining water.

Good stuff, Alan!

You’ve also highlighted one of the use cases for why I prefer an acute point on an EDC blade (if you’re only going to carry one blade):  it works pretty well an awl when you don’t have a dedicated awl on you.

I'm trying real hard to abide by the spirit of the Surge challenge this month, so I'm not carrying anything else.  I am really missing the convenience of a fixed blade knife for my cutting chores, however, so here is Just a little taste to keep my hands from shaking too badly.  My DPX HEST II and the Sharpfinger 152OT. :ahhh
