Clumping Cures
on: June 05, 2008, 07:12:23 AM
I've started to notice so minor clumping with my charge. What do you guys do when your tools start to clump, is there a cure, or do you just chuck it up as a minor unconvinced. If it started to get really bad, I may send it in for some tune  ups.

First off... Welcome to the forum!

I don't have many miles on my Charge yet, but I haven't noticed any clumping.  I would think the only way to fix it would be to have Leatherman refurbish it, unless you want to try taking it apart yourself.
If you took all the intestines out of your body and stretched them end to end... you would die.

I like clumping, so I'd call that a benefit!  :D

A good clean out would be the first thing I would try.
I'm back!!

Theoretically, Charges can't clump.  The pivot screw has flats on it that engage a flattened hole in the handles, preventing the screw from rotating. Washers with flats in between the knife blades can't rotate either. All this is supposed to keep the opening motion of one blade from affecting the blade next to it.

Can you describe exactly what sort of clumping you are getting?

Shouldn't matter if they're loose, the flats keep it from rotating.  :-\

We'll after a good cleaning the clumping stopped, but what was happening was when I opened the Large Bit Driver, it drug the can/bottle opener about half an inch out.

Very strange.

Well, in any case, I'm glad the cleaning took care of it.  :)
