Woohoo - 25th Anniversary Wave
on: June 06, 2008, 09:32:04 PM
I promised in the "What do we have on the way" thread to post some pictures of my 25th Anniversary Wave when it arrived, so here goes.

Well the box that arrived was huge and stuffed with shredded paper as packaging. Within that was the standard cardboard "sleeve" that all Leatherman gift tins seem to have. Removing the sleeve yielded this classy looking gift tin - good start!

Having marvelled at the tin for, oh 2 seconds, off with the lid and, if I'm honest I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw:

I mean I could see that it was what I'd ordered, and I'm not really sure what I expected to see, but, it looked just like any other Wave, with a signature engraved on it. So I mauled it for a minute or so, then decided to compare it to a standard Wave. That's when I started to like it. I mean yes, it's exactly the same tool, and has no differing features from the standard model, but it just kind of shines. Shiny, shiny :D

It is gorgeous. I think I'm starting to understand what King Arthur felt, the first time he held Excalibur.....

The sheath is nice too - same as the standard nylon sheath, but silver / grey in colour. The 25th Anniversary logo on the front seems to be similar to the holograms on credit cards and changes colour as you change the angle of reflected light - very pretty.

Not much more to say really - other than what you can see - it's a Wave, but one I'm glad to add to my collection!

What is the price difference between the two?  Yeah, could look it up, but I'm feeling lazy today.

Lol - no I won't be EDC'ing it for two reasons:

1) I am now inseparable from my TTi;
2) Keeping it shining is a challenge already. I passed it round at work and it attracts fingerprints.....

Cost - I paid $99.95 for it, so a little more than a standard Wave, but I suppose it is a limited edition jobby, so I'm OK with that. The way I look at it is even with postage from the US - it was still $60 cheaper than a standard Wave in the UK!

On the subjest of Limited Edition - on Leatherman's website they say they're making "a few thousand", I wonder how many that will turn out to be - has anyone heard?

Brandon - it's a bit tricky getting a decent picture now it's getting dark here - the flash is a no-no, but hopefully you can see what you're after from this:

Dealer cost is a little less than $10 over a regular Wave so probably around $10-$15 more for street prices depending on where you buy.  I never brought any in since I never had a call for them.  After reading this I'm tempted to put a few in on my order I'm placing next week.  Heck I want one of the sheaths for my own collection.

I guess next year it will be classified a retired model , so it would meet my purchase criteria  :o :D . BTW the shiny one would it be a different case or would it be a standard case that has been machined/engraved & plated or is it a polished finish. Looks a little like a swisstool style finish , am I allowed to say that or will I be banned  :P :D

It's just a polished finish Mat. Apart from that and the "engraved" 25th Anniversary logo - it's the same tool in every aspect I think. Incidentally, the tools are polished too - shiny scissors and bit drivers :D

Ahhh, that's what I was wondering. Good on Leatherman for doing a complete job of it then.

Lol. I used my proxxon to remove a corporate logo off a friend's wave and used the wrong attachment I think. To disguise the bit I'd polished better, I decided to lightly "buff up" the rest of the handles so it didn't stand out as much. Thinking about it now - it was vaguely similar!

Anyhow - E.Danny if you read this - can you make the pouch match with a bit of silver spray paint? :D

I like having all the blades polished. It should really help prevent the rust speckles from forming. :)

I'm getting there cryptrick!

I would love one of those Charges, but at £250 a throw, I'm gonna have to pass on that unless I win the lottery or something. That's pretty unlikely though, as I don't play the lottery :D

So far, is th "25 Wave" worth the money??

Well, it is to me I guess. It's very pleasing on the eye, but I'd be lying if I said it was any better than the bog standard Wave - it's the same!

Looks nice in and amongst my collection anyway. I have no problem with "drawer queens", in fact that's what 90% of my collection are!
