So something to like even less than the Wingman/Sidekick tools.

Hope the mustache guy won't be back

I actually liked the "Wingman guy".

Just an idea, any chance this tool could be like their christmas special? The made the Croc, which is a dumbed down piranha for the holidays, maybe this is supposed to be their low priced holiday option for the year?

Its possible.

I was hoping we would see some variants of the WM/SK - I was just hoping they would be better executed/more well thought out than this: bladeless, no outside tools, etc... Dimensionally it is the same as the existing tools. It does weigh a bit less (according to the specs)

That appears to be an unintentional new product leak...I could imagine LM reaction once they find about this.  8)

So Leatherman will be releasing a crippled budget version of their budget tool...nice.  :td:

That sucks

At least the wire cutter blades cross over, unlike the Wingman/Sidekick.

DISAPPOINTMENT ALERT! Lol

http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Leatherman-Rev-Multi-Tool&i=853595

If this is actually it, it looks like a Wingman variant minus the secondary outside access tool. Knife is apparently non-OHO?

Looks like an attempt to skeletool-ize a Wingman.
Which means it will be one of two extremes:
The greatest MT ever created!
(or)
A total piece of smurf!

These weird pliered wingmen have been available in canada for a while. Seem to be missing hard wire cutters. http://www.amazon.ca/Leatherman-Wingman-Canada/dp/B006FMPZPW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1416166183&sr=8-2&keywords=leatherman+wingman

Maybe to replace the wingman to address the wire cutter issue?

Well Wingman and Sidekick were selling for $15 last Christmas season so going cheaper than that could be difficult.

Tell me you could resist an 8 dollar Leatherman :pok:

I don't know, could have been a matter of not profiting enough on the Sidekick/Wingman when its knocked down that low so they made a new solution?

Just thinking out loud is all.

Plain edge blade (looks like, at least), and a plier head with no spring. These allow a number of options for modding a Wingman.

It still has a pocket clip... and comes with a sheath? Huh. That'd be new.

I don't see losing the second external tool as a huge loss. The scissors on the Wingman don't impress me at all, and the saw on the Sidekick is fairly narrow in function. As a general use basic MT, I think this layout seems solid. The real issue will be what the final retail price settles at, IMO.

Not a fan at all. Judging by the picture it looks like something that would break/bend at the first sign of 'real' work.

I wish Leatherman would focus on quality, rather than quantity with their tool range.

Hmm, I think you're giving much more credit to this tool than it deserves.
But time will tell, for sure. SHOT show is only 2 months away now.

That said, I don't see how it will be any better than the current Wingman/Sidekick offering, at all.

Well based on all my electrical cutters being anvil, I had reasonable hopes for the Wingman but the cutter was dire.  Didn't meet, even after filing off the plier teeth.  Unusable.  Bypass presents a low quality challenge but can hardly be worse.   Going to have to be good on fine copper wire and small cable ties or the scissors will be missed.

The cutters on my one didn't meet until you put some pressure into it. I tested them with multiple types of wires and they actually worked really well. It was the uncomfortable handles that got to me. Cutting cable ties with the scissors was near impossible, I'll stick with the Surge scissors for that thanks.

It looks abysmal to me, but that's a sign of the times guys and it's not all Leatherman's fault.

You're average punter will not, or can not, pay the price Leatherman would need to charge to make a high quality product the way they used to. They have to produce "something" at a price point that your average guy in the street is prepared to pay for in sustainably high quantities, in order for them to keep the lights on. With a workforce busy on the "bread an butter" orders, they can then supplement the cheapo stuff with the more robust tools such as the Wave/Surge/ST300 etc, but I don't think that as a business they can stick 100% in the kind of tools that the enthusiasts want to see - the levels of business just wouldn't support it.

I suppose what I'm saying is that the loyal fans should applaud them for bringing out the range of cheapo naff OPMTs and the cheapo naff Wingman/Sidekick/Rev tools that we have seen of late .... they're keeping the company alive so they can also keep bringing you the tools that folks here DO want to see. I might shout them down a lot of the time for my opinion of a lot of their tools, but as a business they are actively adjusting to the demands of the market, and making those adjustments are what will keep them alive and well, where other companies may fall.

Get used to it. Expect much more of this cheap tool trend. It's keeping the machines paid for and the lads and lasses in full employment so they can bring you the "better" tools in the lower quantities dictated by the difficult economic climate. It's this, ship more production overseas, or downsize the company. Much as I mock them in other ways, I do have to tip my cap to their efforts to manage the market pressures without taking "the easy way out", and changes such as their cost reduction driven redesign of the Surge was very well thought out in my opinion

I still think they could spend a little more time on ergonomics, and realise that not all their potential customers have XL hand sizes (and stop splaying the bloody handles so wide) ... and numerous other gripes already uttered so many times before ... but I don't blame them in the slightest for supplying the masses with the Walmart priced items they seem to be craving. So long as this helps the cash flowing and enables them to keep producing the higher calibre tools for the more discerning customer, then it's a good move on their part

YMMV  :salute:
