Anyone in the UK who could help ?
on: June 09, 2008, 09:50:49 PM
I recently got a SwissSpirit with the aim of modding it to be non-locking. All I want to do is remove the sliding part, but leave everything else untouched.
The problem is I don't have a grinder or Dremel, and I can't see any other way to remove it. I don't want to remove the backspring rivet or anything else.

Is there anyone in UK who could do this for me ?  I'd of course pay a few bob and all postage, etc.

So you're planning on grinding off one of the knurled lock release bits and sliding the sliding bit out? You could probably manage it with a file if you had the patience.

That's it exactly. I'll give it a go with a file, although i'm a bit worried about scratching the side plate too much.

You could put some tape down to prevent scratching, keep the file horizontal and you shouldn't have much of a problem :)

Looking at the tabs, I think you could probably pry one side up with a screwdriver or pull it off with a Channel locks and then pull the rest of the lock out. Whatever you decide, please update when you get it done, I'm curious how the Spirit performs as a slip joint.

It's probably better to just remove the section of knife blade the lock wedge against, so the rest of tools still lock.
