Gran Habano #3

Gran habano corojo  3

These are from my humidor and have at least 16 years of age on them... Trey used to be really strong   but now the strength is gone but the flavour is really good, burn is excellent .
very tasty and smooth

Tried an El Baton and a Rocky Patel 55... both smoked fine but had very little flavour. Definitely not worth the money

That’s a shame.  Most of the RP stuff I’ve had has been decent.

The problem with buying singles, to try expensivish cigars, is that I can only make a judgement on that single cigar. If I do not like it I just never buy it again (anything over 10 Euro)

No idea how long it has been in storage or how brilliantly it was stored.

When I buy boxes/bundles I can smoke a couple every few months, generally have an idea of how fresh they were, and wait for them to hit their peak before smoking them.
Some are best out of the box, like flor de Oliva and most Olivas, some, Cubans, need a few months and some bundles, Habanos Fuerte come to mind, take a decade.

I have some RP that were OK fresh and brilliant after 5 years. RP edge, I have smoked several and bought boxes and are not as hood as they used to be, though still OK.

My comments, on singles especially, just refer to that specific cigar I smoked and to my, reasonably experienced, taste buds.

They should not discourage anybody from trying them.

Hamlet 25 sixty.
These have very little to do with the original Hamlet that dominated the UK corner shop market a few decades ago.
I think they are made by RP.

Not bad, for the price, with good burn and decent flavour

very light fill

Not as good as their premium ones, unsurprisingly

Lancelot cigar, silver band, possibly a shop's own brand.

Very pleasant, good flavour, especially the 1st half. I assume it was cheap.

Perdomo Fresco.
I generally do not find Perdomo interesting but their Fresco line has always been very nice and good value for money, They used to be really cheap over a decade ago, but they are still reasonable.

Together with Flor de Oliva they are my to go, cheap, non Cubans.

The Frescos have more flavour that the Olivas.

Fresco Connecticut, OK but a bit mellow for my taste.

Fresco Maduro, very nice, sweet, smooth flavour.

Going Italian I tried a Toscano Garibaldi.
Toscanos are traditional Italian cigars that have no outer leaf so they look rugged (Clint Eastwood cowboy cigars). They are also designed to be cut in half, thus creating 2 smaller cigars.

They are generally low cost and machine made with short filler Tobacco.

The Toscano Garibaldi were listed as long filler.

An interesting cheap smoke, not distinguishing flavour but no roughness either.

Definitely worth a try even once.

During the pandemic I got the habit of smoking 1-2 cigars each afternoon, with my Expresso Corretto or Freddo Latte.
As I have said, I am a long time pipe smoker and not fond of Caribbean cigars. I mainly smoke Backwoods rusticos and Toscanello.
They need no humidor, nor a cigar cutter.
I used to use my Zippo 1986 to 2004 and my Dupont 2004-2011 (both gifts from my darling) but now that I use electronic cigarettes any Bic lighter will do.

Asylum Schizo Toro Gordo.

Surprisingly good, nice sweet flavour, excellent burn, must be of sandwich construction rather than pure short filler as I was able to get an inch or more of ash, before tapping it off.

Definitely a good low cost option.

For some reason they seem cheaper in Europe than in the States.

Asylum Cigars 13 Hercule.
Good light flavour (typical Asylum sweetness), good burn, though it is a strain on your mouth, more of a novelty than a cigar.
The bigger ring dilutes the flavour, so smaller rings may have more intensity.

Rocky Patel Especial Corojo Toro

This is definitely the best RP I remember having lately.

Really pleasant, creamy sweet flavour, good burn and low cost. Nice spice too.
Flavour profile similar to Asylum, but more spicy. Peppery tingles.
Definitely worth smoking.

I’d have one of those cheap $1 long crappy ones just to make a cloud while mowing the lawn because there would be another cloud of insects following and it just kept them off! When done I’d run in the house and take a nice cool shower, go down to the humidor and get a nice cohiba  , walk into the kitchen and get a wine cooler, then out onto the porch, sit on the swing and light it up, all while the dog sat by my feet, the sun sat, and the water fall I made fell into the little pond next to the porch, ever so relaxing!!
