I spent a good chunk of the weekend putting in some raised garden beds for the wife, and my Surge was with me the whole time. :) I didn't get too many great action shots, but this one turned out ok... trimming the line so that I could continue taking out weeds with the "brute force" method. :viking:

Since I don't own a Surge I'll be sitting this one out  ;).

I came very close to buying one a couple of times, but every time I changed my mind at the last minute.  When I saw the "new" Surge for the first time and I noticed that they changed the plastic thingy on the scissors I was sure I was going to get one now, but no ...

I think it's because I can't see it replacing my ST300.  I strongly prefer the "real" phillips on the ST300, and for my OHO knife needs I carry my Crater or Expanse, and since I always have some kind of SAK on me, I also got the scissors covered.  I like having a seperate OHO knife, for example, when I'm on holiday and for some reason I would be forced to hand over my OHO knife, I would still have my other tools, and a SAK and ST300 are legal in most countries (okay, except for that weird island, on the other side of the North Sea ... ::))

The biggest draw-back on the Surge in my opinion is the size/look of its knife, don't know how it's on the other side of the pond, but over here, people look as if I'm some kind of knife wielding maniac when I dare use my Leatherman Wave in a public/urban environment (have not tested this with my MUT ... yet  :D).  Stangely enough a Swisstool knife is much more "public friendly" (and no one even looks at the butter knife of the Spirit).

Hmmm ...  :think:

I went a bit of topic here, maybe I should have posted this in the Surge owners club ... But there they would just cover me in tar and feathers, or worse, give me enough reasons to change my mind and make me buy one ...  :ahhh

I totally get what you are saying.  Here in California I don't get strange stares when I pull out a blade on my MT or Spyderco.   It does really depends on where I am and since I'm mostly at clients homes or DIY stores I'm good to go.

The Surge for me has been a great tool because the OHO blades, larger scissors ( vs Wave ), blade exchanger, and now replaceable wire cutters ( admittedly I don't really cut much ).  I have always like the bit holder even tho a real phillips always wins.  I haven't found much this tool cannot handle.

I get it too, and I honestly feel bad when people get strange looks for using their knife/MT in public. they are TOOLS, people! ::)

Luckily for me, I live in Oregon, where you're more likely to get a strange look if you don't have a knife or MT on you. :D

I received today a nice dowry for my Surge and Charge. Most of the items are very useful to me because I can't find here the pocket clip and ring and I only had one pair for the Charge. I will have the opportunity to test various saws and equip an possible future new type of Surge or whatever, be it BO or SS.
