Hello from Southwest Florida!

Hello from Southwest Florida!

Google searches have brought me here several times when doing research on knives/multitools, so why not go ahead and make an account?

I'm a new homeowner and decided to pick up a multitool for random projects around the house to save myself numerous trips back and forth to the garage tool chest. Not only has it proven itself useful as all hell, the addiction is setting in quick.

I have a 3 month old Wave that, while I've been happy with it, while it's getting warranty service I feel naked without it and am browsing other new toys.  :gimme:

For any wondering about warranty service, the large bit driver just doesn't hold bits very well. When taking off the plate on an electrical socket, I pulled the Wave away after removing the screw, and the bit went flying. Tested it with other bits as well, same result. Wish they would've incorporated the Skeletool's style of bit driver with the release lever for a tighter grip on the bit.

I hope it comes back in better order. If it doesn't hold the bits well enough to my liking, a Victorinox Swisstool or Spirit "Plus" edition might be in my near future.

Also, I might be doing a possible career change into a trade skill field and would make a nice gift to myself.  :D

Greetings and Welcome, the Wave is a great tool sorry to hear yours was giving you trouble.  I'm sure it'll be fixed up real good when it returns to you.  I have the Plus kits from Vic and they are good ( I have the L wrench ).  I put together a 1/4 bit kit that works well for my needs.  I missed the OHO of my LMs when I carried my Swisstool.

Hi, from Northeast FL (Jacksonville)!

I'm sorry to hear about your Wave but if you've sent it into LM then it's in good hands. I'm sure they'll get it back to you in much better shape than you sent it in!

Welcome to MTO, I'm glad you finally made an account here :D

Cheers

Thanks for the welcomes.  :)

I thought the bit holder seemed loose on the large driver, and being able to easily "fling" the bit out didn't leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling of confidence. I had an old Leatherman PST forever, and I was a fan of the dedicated drivers.

That's why the Spirit Plus set is appealing to me currently. The ratchet and bit set is great on its own, but if I lose a part (such as the large driver bit on the Wave), it doesn't render a tool useless until it's replaced.

Plus, if I did lose a bit from the ratchet set, I can find standard 1/4" bits at any hardware store. Got a few dozen random bits floating around the house and garage tool set already.  :D

Just an update, Leatherman did take care of me and have my Wave back to me in 7 business days. I checked off sentimental item (gift from fiance). They replaced the large bit driver and it grips bits properly now.

However they also replaced my large flat driver I grinded down to an awl.

That large flat driver comes in handy sometimes, though I'm not sure why they replaced it. I suppose they figured it was ground that way because it had broken at some point...
