How did you find MT.O, and what kept you here?
on: June 13, 2008, 07:27:12 PM
This should really go in the New member's forum, and eventually it'll be moved over there, but for now I want maximum coverage :D so it's in the general forum ;)

For my part, I heard about MT.O through a Sosak discussion over on knife forum's, so despite a general loathing of MT's due to a very hate/hate relationship with a LM Supertool, I had a good route around the site and liked what I saw, but as I was a Sak man at heart I just forgot about the site ::)

Then good ole Dunc got made a Mod and pm'd me on another forum to say how much busier it was and that there was a decent Sak content at last! :D

Well then as fate would have it, I fell in love with the Swisstool and was once again obsessed with MT's. And I've been hanging round the place almost totally exclusively ever since :)

What keep's me here is you guy's, the mix of banter, good humour and knowledge is unique to this place, and long may it continue :)

So what's your story ???

Well, I was looking for LM SURGE reviews and I stumbled across MT.O! I soon decided I should register. If you can tell, I registered on my Birthday ( July 4)!

I think it came about when I was looking through the reviews on the main site of the LM Charge before I went and bought one. Then I noticed the forums link, had a browse and then decided to register. It was a costly mistake ;) :D

I was doing a search for reviews on a MT I was looking to buy when I found this place. Lot of good info here and a lot of entertaining people. Usually on groups and forums I am a member of I read  all the posts but dont say much. But even though Im still a newbie here I have already posted more here than I have on groups that I have belonged to for years. :)

I'm fairly certain I followed a link provided by supratentorial on the Multi-Tools section of Bladeforums. I didn't stay long the first time I visited, I just poked around and kind of forgot about it. A few months later I rediscovered multitools and came here with a dirty rusty PST I found at a pawn shop. The overwhelmingly intelligent and well-mannered response hooked me in.

It's rare to find a forum so packed with information that isn't disposed to any sort of insults or flame wars at all and is illustrated so well by pictures taken by so many different posters.

I think I first heard about it through one of the knife forums but didn't come here until I was doing a search for some reviews.

Interesting, I registered the day after my B'day....

I have been an active regular on SOSAK for the past three or four years, and Def invited me to come over and take a look at MT.org in the early beginnings.  I believe it was in May of 2006--I was the 5th member to join! :o Anyway, at the time I thought it was a great idea and eventually I asked if I could help out with moderation of the forums and was accepted.  Not much was happening in the forums then, but Def and David B were working hard on reviews of current multis, and it was all coming together nicely.

I don't remember exactly when traffic started picking up but man, this place grew fast.  I always felt that SOSAK was one of the best forums on the 'net, but MT.org had the potential of being even better, especially since the topics covered a much broader range of the multitool world.  This is now the one site I can't keep from coming to every day, and I really enjoy the open, laid back discussions.  The member's attitudes here, for the most part, are a treat.

Thanks to all for making MT.org such a great place!

I found this place in January last year when looking for reviews of multitools (strangely back then it wasn't one of the first hits on google) I think i found the forum first then the main page but i can't really remember. Didn't post very much at the start but once i got hooked i never looked back.

I've learned so much from this place, and not just about multitools either! There are so many knowledgeable people here its amazing! The friendliness around here is great too, no question is treated as a stupid one (unless Mike asks it :P ) and you lot will go out of your way to help, be that scouring the internet for a random piece of information about the most obscure tool or taking a simple pic of a tool cos someone asked for it. Thats what keeps me coming back :)

Oh and the mods aren't too bad either :pok: :P

Life is like a sandwich...the older it gets the crustier it becomes!

Well I stumbled across here when I was looking for information about leatherman's warranty and whether my worn PST cutters would be covered  (if I remember rightly I did a google search).  The problem was, was that after asking about this I started looking through other threads and in the end I bought another multitool, which then lead me onto other multitools, SAK's and knives.  I never did send the PST in.

Before I joined MT.O I was a member on a few other forums, but none were like this one.  Everyone was nice here, there was no rowing (like you see in nearly all other forums  ::)) and the mods were pretty good as well.  Conversation was also allowed to wander off topic which just added to the whole relaxed atmosphere.

That was all nearly 10 months ago now and as you all very well know, I am pretty hooked to this place and I chime in every day.  I think we have a great bunch of guys here and like Ryan said, I have learnt a lot.  :)
I'm back!!

I think on certain forums who will remain nameless  ;) The mods get off on watching flaming and bullying  :( They arrive too late in the thread then join in before they do anything about it . On here we have enough mods to keep things observed but the best thing is the members  :D they make our job a little easier . Thanks

I had posted a picture of a new MT in a group shot of all I had (in a sack on a stick! :P )
in another forum and neitherxtreme privated me and told me about this crazy joint!

Telling me what a great group of knowledgeable, fun people were over here, I checked it out
and haven't been booted yet! :D

What keeps me here everyday is the way Defender runs it, open-minded, informative,
great Mods, and the way everyone knows how to have fun in a forum by just being good
people.

also Benner posts hot shots of his wife every now and then so that helps  :o

Someone on ETS forums (don't remember who) gave me a link when I asked what multi I should choose for my BoB. Remarkably, I came here just in time for the Deathgrip group buy and, having been looking for the toughest, most uncompromising tool EVA (because while I may never use it as God intended, I sure wouldn't want it to fall apart by the time I do), got in on the action.

I've taken part in quite a few forums over the years, but always kept coming back to an old political discussion board; as others here pointed out, moderation is generally sub par (though I'm not sure how something can be "sub par" if it's the norm) This is the first other forum, where members are genuinely nice. I've come to value this quality above all others. Seeing how this forum reflects my interests better (and definitely is more useful) than the previous one, I moved here for now.

I was surfing porn one day when my wife came home early. I quickly tried in vain to rid my screen of the vile raunchy-ness by trying to click whatever link was there. Somehow i ended up here. I thought in order to maintain appearances i would hang around here and act like i liked multitools. Little did i know a torrid love affair with plier based metal objects >:D would blossum. So here i am.

I was looking for stuff about the PST on Yahoo first came across MTO.org and just read several of the reviews, found a review on the Sebertech M3 (and was like wow :o thats neat that they have a review of that particular tool) red it then left only to come back later on when I did another search on Yahoo for the PST and came across Spoonrobots rusty PST post and read it, then continued for a while reading a lot of the posts here before  deciding to join.  Very glad I joined, great bunch of ppl here from all over the world.  Glad to know all of you guys  :D

Great people, info and coversation here at MTO.    I think this place has the potential to leave SOSAK/knifeforums in the dust.

Been here since the very start, when Def said let's built it I came running :D I was mainly a knifeforums/bladeforums person who was addicted to multitools. Def of course got me hooked on SAK's! I got him more interested in multitools and showed him my very small website and the rest is what we call history. Can't believe it's almost been two years, the good stuff is just getting started!  :multi:
