Breaking the Unbreakable
on: June 06, 2014, 05:10:59 AM
So I bought this on eBay for parts.

It looks like it's been run over by a truck. I mean congrats to the previous owner, that's amazing.

There's still a lot of useable bits there, though. Of course, if there weren't, I wouldn't have bid.

It was $11 plus 6 for postage, which is about the same as what we Aussies can get a pair of the replaceable wire cutters for new, so not a bad deal (the cutters in this one are in good condition, surprisingly).

Everything but the mangled handles and the broken bits of plier-head, is now bathing in WD-40.

I could see breaking those pliers in one of those places, but both?  How do you get leverage to break it twice like that?

The handles are also twisted and one is cracked, the other has a solid dent in one side, so I doubt it was broken just by squeezing the pliers too hard. On one side the pivot attaching the pliers to the handle was also broken. Truck, sledgehammer, aliens, who knows?

Is it missing a knife blade?

The straight edge blade is missing, the file is broken and the tip of the small screwdriver was snapped off. The screws also don't match up. One is keyed and one isn't, it has to be from somewhere else, I suspect the plier attachment pivot from a Core, because it's thicker and full length. It's all a bit of a mystery.

I am pretty sure I have a Rebar PE blade if you want it :)
