Right, back on it.  Stainless Huntsman is now a G10 Fieldmaster.

G10 scales drilled, cut and sanded - gone for a matt finish which actually looks really nice.  Much easier to work than the stainless - fast to sand but rather smelly.  Drilled out the backside phillips and the can opener and did a trial fit.  Everything works fine but I need to make some brass washers to go between the tools and the scales.  I also need to make the barrel pins - I've managed to source some 3mm OD x 1.6mm ID stainless tubing so hopefully I can just tap it out to M2 for the screws.

The stainless tube worked really well for the pivots:

Might not look like much but I don't need to drill them out, just cut to length, clean the ends and tap to M2 for the screws.

Not everything went to plan though:

Need to work on my technique for making brass washers.

You should wear a dust mask when sanding CF and preferably sand it wet to keep the dust down even more.  BAD stuff to get in your lungs.

Yep, dust mask for sure. I'll try wetting it next time too. :tu:

Finished:

Not quite what I expected when I started, but I'm happy with the result.  If I'd known I was going to peen the scales on I wouldn't have drilled everything to 3mm, but I couldn't get the stainless barrel pins to work properly.  Maybe on the next one.  Happy with the way the peening went, and the G10 is very forgiving if you mis-hit.

Nice work!  The rivets look better than my hand done rivets.  :salute:

Excellent work, and I like the density of tools.

Thanks chaps. :salute:

Syph - I riveted, then polished the heads, then lightly peened again to give a nice beaten finish.  Looks good and the G10 is quite resilient and doesn't show marks.  Nice material for scales - cheap, easy to work and doesn't need finishing.  Stinks though.

It started as a Swiss Champ, which is why there's a tool on the back of the saw.  It should be a fine screwdriver, but my friend is into wood carving so I thought a chisel would be more appropriate for her.
