Telemechanique is now Scheneider Electric.

maybe this is a special build for their technicians? I'll try to pry off the scales to see if they are factory or just modded.  It's easy to see in the way the pins are peened.

Pretty smurfing sexy is what it is. I'd want to add scissors to it, and maybe carry a p38 with it, but...

I wish, I wish, I wish that Victorinox would do custom orders of 1. Do it ala carte- you can have this layer, with theses items, this layer, this layer, etc, with wide option of available scales. They could charge nutty amounts of money and have a 8-10 week shipping time in the EU and US, and it would still sell.

They could make boatloads of money on a semi-custom build-a-SAK program. I'd be onboard for sure. Save me the hassle (and $$$) of making my own.

It's legit. I've had one for years, it's one of favorites. I call it the "Engineer", because the screwdriver implies that the user actually does real hands on work instead of sitting around drinking like the scientists do. They were a special run made in the late 1980s made for a French industrial control company called Telemecanique for users of the the Altivar 5, a motor speed controller typically used in industrial automation settings (assembly lines, etc).

If you look inside an Altivar 5, you can see why the technician screwdriver is the perfect tool to give out with these things. There is a row of grey screw-type wire connectors on the left of the upper PCB and across the bottom of the lower PCB for wiring the motor up, and the screws are pretty recessed into the connectors to the regular can opener won't work. Also, there are 6 adjustment potentiometers on the upper board and 12 dip switches.

that is a near perfect SAK for what I would call "light carry"

to me you drop a cybertool layer in the middle of that thing and I am SET!
If I can help, let me know

jazzbass, can you confirm that it uses plus scales ala Scientist with pin and pen?

Also, do you have any identifiers/model number for it?

Thank you. :hatsoff:

P.S. if you notice anything that needs changing, let me know.

I'd love to have the fine screwdriver out of it. Hard to make one for the 91mm size

Nice work. I don't have a model number for it - I kind of doubt it ever had an official one. The rear scales are NOT plus scales, likely due to the "ALTIVAR 5" inlay on the back. From observation, Victorinox seemed to shy away from doing inlays on rear plus scales. The Mechanic Jr is another good example of this - for models with Techline inlaid on the front, the rear plus scale has the Victorinox shield screen printed on instead of inlaid.

No pin slot either, which would be typical for the time from standard rear scales.  It does come with the eyeglasses screwdriver in the corkscrew.
