Everytime I see this thread I click on it thinking people are attacking coat hangers with mts and am then quickly dissapointed and saddened greatly.

If I were to design a multitool entirely for aviation, I'd want pliers for safety wire, cotter pins and such, a knife and scissors for parts packaging, and some screwdrivers.  There's not much else you really need.  I don't need a can opener, file, saw or serrated blade.
My EDC:
Leatherman Skeletool   Led Lenser P3 AFS P
Leatherman Style CS    "Fauxton"
Sharpie Twin Tip           Bic Mini

I used the can opener and diamond file on my Surge a fair bit when I was wrenching. I never met a turbine engine that didn't need oil, and there was always a sharp edge somewhere that deserved a quick dressing. The saw stayed home. The serrated blade didn't get a lot of use, though it was great for cutting the straps on shipping pallets.
I EDC'd a SAK before MacGyver did...

As a motorsports mechanic my needs aren't all that far off from what you're doing in aviation, and I've found the Rebar to be pretty decent for the task. The pliers and cutter are definitely great for safety wire. The other tools, however, aren't what I'd like them to be, and the lack of outside opening is kind of a hassle.

I'm considering jumping ship and picking up a Gerber MP1, which seems perfect for mechanic work.

I'm really happy with my Rebar, but I am with Max Archer on the outside opening, it would be pretty useful.  I used to carry a Wave, that tool would be perfect with replaceable wire cutters.  I just can't seem to get on with Wave's by default.  The BO one I carried was awesome, but it was one out of about 5 I've owned and the only one that I didn't have some issue with.  Usually the plain edge blade comes out way too easily, that's my main issue with them.  It sometimes comes out on accident and I have been nicked before so I am wary.

This discussion reminded me of this incident:
http://www.caa.govt.nz/Script/Accident_Details.asp?Oc=12/218

Mate, that incident stuck with me for a while, what a totally unnecessary waste of human lives that was.

Unfortunately it's got quite a bit to do with our laid back and "she'll be right" Kiwi attitude :-(
EDC and OCD. A wicked mix.
