Which assisted opener to get...
on: July 23, 2008, 12:41:03 AM
ive been in the market for a good sturdy basic knife with assisted opening, and so far i've narrowed it down to the...
CRKT hissatsu-nice looking
CRKT full throttle-a very elegant knife, like the simplicity
Kershaw ken onion blackout straight edge-my top choice, cheap, lovely handle, and seems very solid
Benchmade mini-nitrous-gotta trust the benchmade brand, but i was wondering how the assisted opening on this one operates?

i've looked at some SOGs and they just look kinda cheap to me, but feel free to make any recomendations.
thanks for your help guys, any input will be greately appreciated!

The thing I don't like about SOG assist is that you can't replace the spring yourself, where as kershaw you email them, they'll send you a new one, and it's literally a drop in. CRKT tend to have lesser steels than other makers.

Personally I'm waiting for my kershaw leek with composite blade.

so kershaw just sends you one? do you have to send yours back first?

tha nks for the help, i looked the the leek, but the blade seemed a little long for me.

Nope, you go to their website, go to warrenty section, request a speedsafe spring through the online form, and they'll send you one by mail. The leek blade is only 3 inches long, it's a pretty small knife.

Here's a video on the mechanism and you can see how easy it is to replace it.
