If you could only carry one SAK...
on: July 14, 2014, 11:47:40 PM
Just out of curiosity - if could could only carry one MT of any kind, and it had to be a SAK, which model would you take?

Personally, I'd carry the Huntsman. Almost the perfect SAK to me.

SwissChamp

Covers all sensible bases :D

In everyday life,I'd reckon on either a Farmer(in the green) or a SuperTinker( on the streets)
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

This is always such a tough kind of question, but if I had to choose right this second on the one and only SAK to carry for the rest of my life I would say Cybertool 41.
I'm the milk man!

Normally I would say a Pioneer/Soldier but lately the Marly Trail Guide is been fitting most of my requirements for an EDC.  I still have a Pioneer handy in my daypack but the Trail Guide is spending more and more time in my pocket. Very handy these days.

Always have a bunch of different SAKs in my daypack to play with so this could change.

If it's for the rest of my life....probably a Pioneer/Soldier/Farmer.....or a Swiss Champ....or.....?  :ahhh

Just out of curiosity - if could could only carry one MT of any kind, and it had to be a SAK, which model would you take?

The wrong one!

Seriously!

I have a Manager on my keys at all times, and the most likely one I would use for general carry is a Traveller. I wouldn't take either of them hiking/camping/boating though. Neither would I take my (outdoors) Rangergrip 90, or (gardening) Ranger 14 to a wedding. If I limited myself to only one multitool/SAK, there would be times that the tool would be innapropriate or insufficient for the job ..... that's why I don't limit myself  :D

:D That's exactly why I find it interesting! There's always that trade off between having enough tools and too bulky a SAK. Except if you have a Huntsman  :pok: :pok:

If I could only have one... Cybertool 41.

My Super Tinker or Explorer is better for EDC... but the CT has all the bases covered.

Perish the thought carry only ONE SAK  :ahhh

Ok I'm better, I'd go with the Swisschamp as well.  It has me covered with everything and a few tools that with some creativity can be used in unintended ways.

It'd have to be an alox Electrician. But I'd have to be pretty hard pressed not to have my Minichamp too.

Midnite Manager. Great tool set accompanied by an awesome pen and a good LED.

I carry a 91mm daily and rarely find myself reaching for it.

Vic Ranger Plus.  Not connected to the tweety bird lanyard though.

Front right pocket or in backpack.  All the tools I normally use plus a pen, ss pin and minidriver.

Or a 111mm outrider for a close second

I will often carry a 58mm rambler or minichamp in addition

I usually carry a Farmer and a Pocket tool chest if I had to boil those tools to one SAK it would be a Huntsman.

Only one SAK would suck can't mix it up every couple days with different combos of SAK's.
Jeep the SAK of the auto world or is it SAK the Jeep of the Knife world?

This is always such a tough kind of question, but if I had to choose right this second on the one and only SAK to carry for the rest of my life I would say Cybertool 41.

Assuming we can't do a custom knife, this would be my choice as well.  A decent mix of tools that would well in both an Urban and a Rural environment.  It isn't the perfect rural knife (A longer blade and wood saw found in the 111+ sizes would be nice, as well as a serrated blade), and it isn't the perfect urban knife (a little on the big side, no mag glass, and no fish scaler -- a surprisingly useful urban tool!), but it will handle most jobs in both environments.

BTW: If customs are allowed, then my Custom, which I EDC every day.  Called the Cybertool Core Duo:
  • Large Blade, Combo Tool
  • Metal Saw
  • Fish Scaler
  • Serrated Main Blade, Watch Opener tool
  • Scissors
  • Pliers
  • Bit Driver + bits
  • Mag Glass + Phillips Screwdriver
  • Backside has hook, awl, corkscrew + mini-screwdriver

The answer I would give to this has changed over the years.  Right now I would probably say a deluxe tinker with metal saw layer added, with plus scales.

It would have to be the Swisschamp for me, it's what I normally carry.

so a Troubleshooter

I put plus scales on mine, a great SAK.  wish mine had newer file, but otherwise a great SAK.

I didnt know it actually was a model! :D  When I think about a SAK I start with a swiss champ and take off what I dont need... while the inline phillips is nicer, I prefer to not have the mag glass, keep the sak thinner and make do with the backside phillips.

Uhh. So hard. I will problably change my mind before the day is over. As much as I love my cadet, it has to be a cellidor for the scale tools.
I was close to take the Compact or small Tinker but changed my mind. Use my Rambler more than any other, but only a 58mm for the rest of my life!
Today I choose Deluxe Tinker and I guess put up with that I really think it's too fat for EDC and barely use the pliers but with only one you don't want to go too minimalistic.
