Vacation!
on: September 19, 2014, 09:27:12 AM
I´ll be on a 10 day Vacation to the Belgian seaside from tomorrow until October 2nd. So don´t worry, I am not gone.  I still like you Toolheads and enablers. ;-)
I won´t have Internet access but hopefully long walks on the beach and in the dunes with fine weather.

My wife´s Aunt owns a little cottage in Belgium that we can use for doing minor maintenance/repair work.
We both like the landscape there, our dog loves it and if the weather is bad, we sit in front of the fireplace and read and listen to Audiobooks, drinking coffee or tea.

There is no internet as the cottage is not connected, adn intzernet via GSM is painfully slow via my wives outdated smartphone and quite expensive, too.
I once tried taking a Laptop and a "Surfstick" - A USB dongle with SIM card, but the prepaid data packages were gone after minutes.

I would like to be able to check eMail, but I get along without - Maybe my next phone will be smart enough to acces the net.
I use a Samsung B2100 but am thinking about a Lumia.

As for tools - I will take the usual. MP 600, Spartan and a classic in my toiletry bag. And a SRM Grathr sent over for testing.

Whoops... Never quite knew the difference. Chips are thin and round, fries are stick-like, is that it?...

Anywho, hope you can get some time at the beach, lowtech...

Thanks, Guys!

Actually we choose this time of year (and/or around easter) because the beaches are quite empty. I´m not the one to bath in the sun and sea and lay on my towel all day - I like a good walk along a windy shore or through the dunes with the grass waving and the landscape being remodeled by the wind right under your feet.

Our dog, as she has some sleigh-dog genes likes autumn better too. Too bad we cannot let her run without a leash - There is too much of a hunter left from her day as a street dog in Romania (She´s from Brasov).

It will be great and i will surely taste some fries and some cheeseballs, too maybe.

Indeed it is. ;)

The animal Shelter in Cologne does work together with some in Romania and they brought Dogs that should getb killed over here to find homes for them. We were not looking for a dog from Romania, but somehow she found us when we were looking at the different dogs in the shelter.

And regarding the world being a small place, our Boy Scout troop was on a 3 week hike in Romania, visiting Brasov 2 or 3 years ago.

PPS: Seriously, Belgium? I just had two friends from Belgium coming to vacation in Romania as it was too cold and damp at home...

Actually, the weather has been very good for about 10 days now, last week we even had that summer feeling again, lots of sun, and warm southern winds (25°c is what we call warm in September).  Next week would also be quite good, but with more normal temperatures (around 18°c).  At least that's what the weather forecast said (and they do get it wrong quite a lot here...).

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Belgian coast (I prefer to go to the Netherlands), but since lowtech can stay in his wife's aunt's cottage here in Belgium, it's an easy choice  ;).  And indeed, this time of year the beaches are quite empty, which is ideal for some nice relaxing hiking on the beach.

Hope you have a great time here mate .
