Well because the Skizzors and the Mainblade on my Roxon Flex works more so semi , (they cut but the Mainblade could be sharper and better to hold, and the Skizzors tend to get stuff as this Spring is a bit flimmsy ) i did decide to still corry the Roxon, but whit Phillips, BitDriver, Wood and Metal Saw instead of the Rimer, Bottle, Canopener, Blade and Scizzors, and the other Tools are now on my ALOX Pioneer LE 2024 in this sorth of Gold or Brass Color ..

I really hope Victorinox will some time in the future bring an Alox whit Back Tools (Korgscrew)..
Your SAK is only fully yours, when it bites you, or you opend a Trink of your joice whit it
SAKs i have: Huntsman Light (Red Transparent), Workchamp (Black), Wenger EvoGrip S557 (Red), Swisschamp XLT (Red Transparent).. Swisschamp (Blue Transparent) Cybertool L (Blue Celidor (custom scales) , Huntsman (Black Celidor) , Victorinox EvoGrip S557 (Red, but sadly lost in my house somewhere) Victorinox Delemont S17 and S57 ..  , waiting for: Swiza D09 Blue

I’ve been carrying my Pioneer for a couple days now off and on. I still can’t believe it started as a SAK I thought I’d never enjoy carrying and quickly turned into a favorite.

It’s seen some harder use over the last year, been a repeat user during the Alox challenges,  and just these last couple days I’ve noticed the wear on it. I’ve kept a decent edge on the blade, except the tip, but it’s not quite as good as it could be. The knife doesn’t look as bad as I thought it should.  The can opener is still sharp but has seen better days.  The flat head has been used a lot and shows it.  And the awl has been slightly reprofiled when resharpened.  It has also been used extensively.

Perhaps this thread should be Alox [will last] forever.  It’ll likely outlast me that’s for sure.

I love alox, I never even knew of it until I joined this forum, I then bought my first which I believe was a pioneerX and then a farmer, but I liked it soo much I had a custom one made with a red scales and the old cross, but I’ve been carrying my red FarmerX ever since it came out in its nice leather sheath with sharpening steel,

Great post! I love alox, and most especially the pioneer.

Your post highlights that it isn’t only the scales that show wear on a well used alox knife.

Here’s my 2018 berry pioneer which has been my edc for 6 years now. It’s kind of hard to capture the blade and tool wear in the lighting here, but it has been put to a lot of use.

:like: That’s great gustophersmob. Everytime you post about your Pioneer I think there’s no way I could get by with just a Pioneer.  But it’s proven so much more capable than I initially thought.   The Vic quality is also well represented with yours after so much use.

Still loving the worn alox look     :like:

Shelf queens/collectables look fantastic and are so, so attractive - Particularly alox
And I cannot deny it I have a few myself

But a worn and well-used (but never abused) knife is what it is all about and how it should be.

Same applies to vintage knives in your collection -
I will always clean and oil and sharpen and maybe re-profile a snapped off blade point
But I never polish and restore into an as new state - You see this sometimes on the Bay    :o
That just looks all wrong to me .....    :twak:    ..... Not that you could do that with worn Alox     ;)

It’s definitely a quality knife!  Though, I can understand how it may not be the ideal edc for everyone. For me, I’m never too far away from dedicated tools, and don’t really love plastic on knives, and like a lightweight carry while still being robust, so the pioneer checks a lot of boxes for me.

;)

Just kidding, I even have a shelf queen myself, the 2023 winter magic cadet, though my preference is to use my knives.

I agree about restoration of vintage knives (and other items) make it functional, but don’t erase the history.

Fell in love with this SAK! Done some research on it. From what I found it's a 1973 SAK Farmer Alox. It has discontinued brass liners. It's sporting the old cross. I did receive it with its original 52 year old key ring. I took off the old key ring and upgraded it with a stainless steel mighty mite key chain. I know paracord is the norm but out in the field if I swish this in the river to wash it off I don't need to throw a bunch of wet paracord in my pocket. Also the Keychain fold into the pocket and you cannot tell it's there. I felt like that was a solid upgrade after trying several options, this was the only one that made sense with this kind of knife. I used 320 diamond grit at a 19 degree angle then 10k ceramic stone to hone and finally leather stropped for a hair shaving edge back onto the 52 year old SAK. It's still in pristine condition and build like a tank no wiggle, blade are sharp good snap, not a spot of rust. I feel like even after it's existence for 52 years and in this shape it's going to out last me. I cannot find anywhere online to purchase another one. If I wanted another one of the same model what kind of price would I be looking at for this particular model. This one fell into my lap and cost wasn't associated with the transaction so I don't know what it's worth. Does anyone have a general idea on what a 1973 farmer alox would be worth?

Nice looking farmer!

I see these go on eBay for anywhere from $50 (rarely this low these days) to around $100, maybe a bit higher.

It’s hard to pin down a date on these exactly, the brass liners indicate it’s likely pre-1985. I’d assume it has the small-“v” Victorinox logo.

Regardless of exact age or value, it’s a fine, solid pocket knife

Yes it has the small victorinox stamp on the tang. The reverse of the main blade is blank indicating it was made from late 73 to early 76. Thank you for a value update I'll need to find maybe one more like this for a family member. I've had alot of SAK in my day some rare ones some spendy ones, but after experiencing this Alox....there's just no going back to a celidor model regardless of what tools they have.

The blank reverse is only useful for dating the cellidor or officer knives. The alox knives with a victorinox front stamp have a blank reverse. The exceptions are soldier knives which have a date stamp on the reverse (or other 93mm alox with leftover soldier blades) or knives with an Elinox or Fischer tang stamp which have the 4 line VSSR stamp on the reverse tang.

Hope that makes sense.

I don't think you can upload videos or gifs direct to MTO. You have to host it somewhere else like photobucket or Imgur and link to it.

After doing some thinking I realize the 1973 date i put on the F.A. was not correct after hearing what you said. With that being said can you guys help me determine the date of this farmer. Let me know if you need any other pictures to help get a year of manufacture. If it's just not possible I would understand.
