Anything worth buying?
on:
August 18, 2014, 01:36:11 PM
Hi guys,
Found this guy who is selling off his collection. I don't know much about either katanas, tantos or folding knives. Do you think any of these is worth buying? I kinda fancy 1,2,3 and 6. I know all are probably Chinese, but I was wondering if they might be decent China (Tekut, Ganzo, Enlan, Cold Steel) or just Stainless Steel China junk.
Prices:
1. 12 E
2. 9 E
3. 10 E
5. 12 E
6. 10 E
7. 8 E
8. 3 E
9. 11 E
10. 2 E
11. 4 E

Nothing looks familiar (known brand), though the antler one, no9, looks intersting. They all look like really low end knives, and some look used, a lot, too.
It al depends on the price, but I would not buy any. As for the swords, I assume they will be just cheap and dagerous to the user.

You were right mate. I received some detail photos.
1 and 2 were "Stainless Steel" and 3 and 6 were "Smith & Wesson"... hm.. what should I use my pennies on instead (they are burning a hole in my pocket)... Minichamp, Dime or SigLite

I picked up one like or similar to number six recently. I think it was a S&W. Came in a box with other stuff but I haven't checked it out yet. I can look it over tomorrow after work if you want my opinion on it.

Corwyn...you are asking us on what to spend your money on? You are doomed.
How much coins are we talking about here? May I suggest a Musashi Katana. Musashi produces some of the nicest "real" Katanas for a real cheap price. They are entry level Katanas...but are real swords and users. Some models even feature a real Hamon for less than 100 bucks. Very good value for money...and they come razor sharp and are made from carbon steel and well tempered. A real steal in the Katana field.
Umm...and if you ever feel the need to do some backyard cutting...

Damn you, you evil, evil enabler..
This is just what I wanted and 80-100 $ is really not that much (might have to persuade Santa Bunny to get me one).
Now where can I get one of these in the EU? I highly doubt customs would be too happy to let this pass through...
PS: Chako, you know you're the example I give when people tell me I have too many multitools

I bought mine here in the US. Don't know if they will ship to your part of the world...but worth a try.

Note: Their cheaper ones have simulated etched Hamon...so be careful. Nothing like the real one on my Tomoe.

Hm... so cheaper than their own website
http://www.musashiswords.com/
It doesn't say any special customs stuff for Romania.. either it's fine to send here or they never heard of Romania
The whole fake Hamon thing is confusing:
So uneven wavey edge is real?

And even wavey edge is artificial?
http://www.kultofathena.com/images/SS9191_6_l.jpg
I like the Tomoe one, but I prefer full tsubas (so many of my nails nails flew away during kendo practice). Which of the full tsuba ones might be a good replacement? (preferably with the smallest, least visible CHINA tang possible).
le edit: it says on the description, doh!

I went for the Tomoe because I was rather curious about all the good things I have read and seen online, and it was the cheapest with a real hamon. I wasn't expecting much...but it is well worth what I paid for it and more I think.
The problem with Cult of Athena...the swords are so popular most are out of stock.
Edit: Based on their website, maybe the Tomoe is now discontinued.

If I ever try to order one of these, they'd stop at Customs...

Hi Corwyn, sorry to bother but I noticed that you didn't list number 4. I agree they all look cheap but #4 interests me. Do you by chance know anything about it? I haven't ever seen one quite like it. If it helps any, I do recognize several of the others as very low end blades and likely not worth your money. Thanks in advance.
