I saw this pic, of an old pocket knife. The thumb-studded tool is an old british design can opener, from what I've read. Couldn't find any pics/video/description of how it works.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks.

  :salute:

I think that you would pierce the can down to the stud and then with a rocking motion resting the stud on the edge work your way around the tin.

I believe this is correct, i.e. rest the stud on the edge of the can, rock the tool up and down with the stud as the pivot point, while holding and rotating the can with the other hand.

With the blade facing up and away from you, going counter-clockwise? Yeah, it might work...

Thanks!

I have a similar tool in a more modern knife (portuguese design). It's got a large blade, corkscrew (portuguese design, this is a must) and a bottle/can opener. I thought it only worked like a SAK can opener, but it might work like this ancient model, too. Maybe even better than in SAK fashion.

It has a sharp beveled edge, it works as a small blade, too. Good for clamshell package opening.
