Defaced Farmer - what to do?
on: September 23, 2014, 02:04:03 PM
I bought a very cheap Farmer from a car boot - great condition but look at the shield!:

Any suggestions on how to salvage this?

Keep it for your travel into any country where cross-shaped symbols are forbidden?
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Rescale it or just use it as a beater.

I'll go the beater route- I haven't got the bits to rescale. At least I won't have to worry about wrecking it!

I don't know what the previous owner was thinking

Great SAK to use for everything and don't have to worry about ruining.  Also if you ever get the urge to MOD now you have one to have a go at.

I'd guess it was a SAK for those countries that take exception to the cross symbol

Don't worry about it. It's not as if a damaged shield logo affects function ...

Yeah, I agree, I just don't like seeing stuff wilfully wrecked.

I mustn't grumble though as I am the beneficiary!

Whoever did it deserves a sound thrashing!

Joking aside I'd just leave it as is, and just use it as is :(

Looks to me like it was owned by a "no logo" activist. He did it kinda half-assed though.

But it's a knife, not a Wenger ad. I'd be tempted to use it to cut stuff.  >:D

Seriously though, if I were you, I'd probably junk it. I've no problem with the usual forms of patina, but I hate stuff that has acquired clear evidence that a previous owner was a nutcase - bad karma I reckon.

Why should the SAK suffer? It has a good home now and can do its job.

It really does look like someone wanted to remove the logo eh... hmm.  If if bugs you that much you could just take some sanpaper and sand the whole scale smooth.  That would take some effort though.

It sure does!  I'd leave it as is or maybe highly polish it tho it would be slippery.

Why not find some appropriately sized, attractive, flat, antique looking item (coin, medal, end of a shell casing etc ??) to epoxy over the damage, and then use the heck out of it

This seems like the best idea to me.

I'd sand that area flat and glue something cool there.

It could make for a nice mod.

Tell them when you were little, you got sucked into the combine, and Billy jumped in to save you. It was Billy's knife, and it's the biggest part of him they found, and to this day you carry it and can't stand to look at corn. Look really sad when you tell it.
