Rescale it or just use it as a beater. Nate
I'll go the beater route- I haven't got the bits to rescale. At least I won't have to worry about wrecking it!I don't know what the previous owner was thinking
Tell people you used it to fend off a bobcat attack. (Image removed from quote.)
I may go one better and say it was a bear - in for a penny, in for a pound as we say in the UK
Looks to me like it was owned by a "no logo" activist. He did it kinda half-assed though. But it's a knife, not a Wenger ad. I'd be tempted to use it to cut stuff. Seriously though, if I were you, I'd probably junk it. I've no problem with the usual forms of patina, but I hate stuff that has acquired clear evidence that a previous owner was a nutcase - bad karma I reckon.
It really does look like someone wanted to remove the logo eh... hmm. If if bugs you that much you could just take some sanpaper and sand the whole scale smooth. That would take some effort though.
I would just use it as a beater.
Why not find some appropriately sized, attractive, flat, antique looking item (coin, medal, end of a shell casing etc ??) to epoxy over the damage, and then use the heck out of it
If you want a new scale and fancy a go at peening Alox let me know. I've got one and some pin stock you could have.
