How many layers does your everyday carry SAK have?

I've been wondering for a while how big of a SAK (in terms of layers) people carry. Type and length of SAK doesn't matter: 58mm, 85mm, 91mm, 111mm, 120mm, 130mm etc., anything goes.

Also, for those whose EDC knife has more than the two standard layers that are featured on pretty much every SAK of 3 layers or more (i.e. blades, bottle opener, can opener) could you mention what tools make up those extra layers?

As for me, I've just retired my Victorinox Climber and started carrying a Wenger S17, which is about the same weight and thickness, but as well as the scissors that the Climber has, the S17 also has a wood saw.

Once I get to four layers, it's really only the weight that bothers me - and in jeans I'm happy with 6 layers or even a Swiss Champ in my pocket.  Typical pocket carry for me though 1 to 3 layers - Bantam, Cadet, Tinker (and small Tinker), Climber for example, or a 3 layer Alox.

Depends... Goes from 1 to 3. Bantam, Sportsman, Climber. I tend to rotate these 3, just 'cause.

Tough call, either 3 or 4/5 depends on how you look at it. Both are 93mm alox, but the farmer has three layers, and my custom Pharmber has both four and five depending what side you look at if from. JR

No more than two. A tinker, recruit, spartan, and the alox pioneer/Wenger SI are my go-to everyday SAK's. Anymore than two layers gets to be too much in a pocket with all the other stuff carried.

Varies. I've been all the way up to a Swisschamp and Workchamp. My minimum is 3 layers. I only carry 91 and 111mm SAKs (except the Alox Classic on my keychain which I never count).

Today it's a Hunter (3 layer 111mm).

I figured 5 layers was my max for EDC.

My perfect EDC is a Woodsman (Explorer with a saw) but as they are pretty rare I modded a Swisschamp down to 5 layers.

3 or 4 usually, the ones in my rotation in the last few months are the GigaHz CyberLocksmith, the Syph007 Urban Pioneer PhD (currently) or one of the Wenger Travelers.

Mine is a GigaHz custom as well - the Rogueneer....some of you may have heard of it   It has become my one true EDC item, which is a first for me, since I got it in late June of this year, so 3 months now.  It's 5 layers, with the extra tools being scissors, metal file and the mag/phillips layer.  I should also mention that the small blade was replaced with an Electrician's blade.  I love this SAK

It's almost always 3 for me, Yeoman, Super Tinker, 'Super Cadet'.  I'll carry a Pioneer, or sometimes just a Rambler, if I need a slimmer option.

I have a couple of jars full of random SAK parts that I plan on using to make as many different 3-layer configurations as I can.  Just getting started on that, though.

BUT: I just EDC really one SAK everyday. It´s a Climber that lives in the cell phone pocket of  my working vest and I carry that vest everyday. So the Vic is with me everyday as well. Man, I love that vest. I can zip out the inlay for summer wear and ...



I don´t carry a SAK in my pocket per se, more a Traditional slipjoint in general.

But the Climber is always on my side.

So 3 layers
