Good combo EDC/bicycle light?
on: November 19, 2014, 06:24:58 PM
I'm thinking about getting a light for a friend. It would ideally be something small for EDC carry, and have a solid option for mounting on a bicycle for riding at night. I'm not sure on how much throw/flood would work best, and am hoping for some input from folks here.

I'm completely unfamiliar with mounting bracket options as well, and input on that would likewise be appreciated.

EDIT: Mods, feel free to move this to the flashlight forum if that seems more reasonable.

Personally, I don't like flashlights as bikelights, too narrow beam. That said, dx.com has several flashlight-bike-mounts

LedLenser has also a mounting bracket that fits several of their models.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I use my Fenix E01 in a pinch for a bikelight and just mount it with a ziptie or two. It works surprisingly well.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I've actually been thinking about ordering one of their bike-mounts and pairing it up with my Sipik SK68, and getting a "complete" DX-bikelight-set. :D

I've used a pair of Fenix LD20s mounted on Twofish Lockblocks in the past - bright, robust, waterproof and reasonable runtimes on decent NiMH batteries.  They're a little indiscriminate in where they put the light though, and worked better for MTBing than on the road.  A bit big for EDC too I feel, but ok in a bag.

I got a light kit coming from SPAMCORP but it's mainly a dedicated bike light though it does come with a headband.

I know niteize makes a mount and every product I've used of there's had been made well.

and here's a cheap version from SPAMCORP .

good luck with your search Lynn

Just a little FYI

I didn't like how my edc light lite up the road I had to get a light made to be a headlight. It came with a taillight

I am not sure about where you live, but here if you ride at night, you have to have a mounted tail lite and mounted head lite. You can still use a headband.
