True Utility Telepen and Compact Microlite
on: November 23, 2014, 02:19:14 PM
I had to visit the local CAA to renew my membership, and was surprised at all the neat goodies found therein. I should't have actually considering CAA has a lot to do with traveling. I found 2 neat True Utility products, and both are nice...but the pen is the winner here in design.

The Telepen is a superior design to the Nite Ize Inka pen, or at least I think so. This telescopic pen is easy to use, and quite durable. I tried bending the pen, and although there was some flex, I had to apply more force then I would simply using the pen. No telling how the design might stand up to a lot of wear and tear...but for the sheer fact of simplicity, I like the Telepen over that of the Inka pen.

The next item is a small flashlight that uses 4 LR44 batteries to power 3 LEDs. No on/off switch as it is one of those twist the flash head to power the device on or off. It does throw a nice amount of light, and due to the 3 LEDs, it is a fairly nice round pattern. Made from aluminium, it should wear nicely on any keychain.

I agree. The nice watertight case is a plus.

I was prepared to say no, but after looking at their web site, I can say yes. Mine came as a pair labeled Rolson, and did come from the UK. True Utility calls it the Clip Tool. Looks like True Utility imports cheap Chinese designs for their plier based multitools.

As for experience, it is much smaller than the Skeletool, and not made anywhere as good either. Fits in the cheap and cheerful category.

Had a telepen at some point, gifted it after a while. I will have to find another one, it's perfect for a keychain.

The newer version of the telepen is much better.  The thickest part of the pen stays where you grip while writing while the telescoping back end is the thinner part.  Way, way more comfortable to write with.

Good catch Dan  :tu: I have the older version, and think it's a nice keychain addition. However, if you already have a Vic Classic on there, I'd personally prefer an upgrade to a Manager. As for comparison with the Inka pen, the Telepen in a lot more discrete on your keys, but I love the way the Inka converts to full sized pen.

All said, the Telepen is well worth the meager cost for anyone wanting to add a lightweight pen to their carry.

No experience with the little light here, but it does look a nice alternative to a Photon/Fauxton

I've had that pen for about two years now and it's still in good shape, I like it very much  :tu:.
