Models with inline philips still around.
on: November 01, 2014, 09:50:19 PM
I am looking for something that will give me a list if saks has the inline philips.

I am trying to find out what choices are for tool selection and number of layers.

Thx.

P.S.  I would like something like the Spartan Lite but have the Lite swapped out for a mag glass but want to see what stock saks have these options. I dont want a fish scaler or pliers and the less layers the better as i already have an Explorer.

Thanks for the replies but I need something that is in production or easily found so it doesnt cost alot of money.

The Passenger would be perfect size. :)

If a 4 layer Explorer is uncomfortable lying in your pocket you might :
try eBay for a Passenger
or
try a Leatherman Crater c33TX which has an inline Phillips and,it has a pocket clip.
or
try hanging the Explorer from a loop of string / paracord from the belt with a clip.
Sometimes when the knife hangs vertically in the pocket it's comfortable.
A belt sheath could also be a solution.

I use a P-7 clip and do have it in my pocket.  I would like a thinner sak so i dont have to use the clip because the clipmis noticeable and in some places I frequent if it seen then it is taken away til I leave.

I would love an alox model setup like the Farmer with a combo tool in place of the can opener and an inline Philips driver in place of the cap lifter.

Good luck in your search I find a dedicated Philips driver very handy and the most used tool on my Tinker. Only problem is the driver on the back at 90deg is less useful in tight places than an inline dedicated driver.

Yeoman is in "special production" and available from SwissBianco. Not cheap, though.

Explorer --> Passenger is an easy mod to make.  You won't even need new pins if you're careful. :pok:

I dont wanna get into moddjng as I will leave that to you guys!  :)

I am considering a Spartan lite and would like someone to swapped out the lite for a mag glass.

Another idea, I have an Explorer and a black Pioneer so it would be nice to take the scissors out from the Explorer and put them into the Pioneer.  I would end up with a Passenger and a cool Pioneer.

it would be easier and cheaper to remove the scissors from an Explorer than it would be to take the "Lite" out and put a magnifier in (the magnifier has to come from somewhere). The Spartan Lite is, according to SAKWiki, 2mm thicker than the Passenger and only 1mm thinner than the Explorer.

The CT29 is technically only 3 layers, but it's as thick as the 4 layer Explorer.

Yes!  The lite has thicker liners than it needs to, to accommodate the stupid light.

Just save up your money and have Syph mod you up an Alox after the holidays. Not till I get mine made though.

There is one posted on the Alox forever thread that would be perfect or you could go even more bare.

Something like a blade, combo opener/flat head and a inline phillips. Would be like what 2 layers?

I have an Explorer, SwissBianco Yeoman, and Spartan Lite.

My favorite is the Spartan Lite. Why?

The combo tool on the Yeoman is bad. It does everything...POORLY. I tried it as a bottle opener one time, and the sharpish tip punctured into a Coke bottle cap. Fail. I tried it as a screwdriver a few times, but it is usually too small for a regular size screw, and it closes up on me easily. Fail. Too big for a small screw, fail again. It just fails at EVERYTHING. I also don't like the hook that +B put there instead of the awl. The awl is a more useful tool, all-around.

The Explorer is wonderful, but as you said, it is a bit thick. A pocket hanger does wonders for this though, if you can bear to have that pocket hanger showing all the time.

With the Spartan Lite, I thought I would miss the scissors, but I hardly ever do. Not NEARLY as often as I missed the proper screwdriver or awl on the Yeoman. Also, since someone here pointed out that with two blades, one can use the small blade as an all-around utility blade, and keep the big one clean and sharp for the odd food duty, I've been really enjoying doing that.

The LED flashlight and magnifier are about equally useful to me.

The Spartan Lite is only marginally thinner than the Explorer though, because the light is a thicker layer than the magnifier.

Drop me a line if you might be interested in the +B Yeoman.

The Hook as a scissors spring back-tool is not +B (SwissBianco) "invention", but Victorinox's :twak: >:D I.e. +B hasn't put The Hook instead of the awl, but he has used the original tools in original manner :D

Although +B has changed Yeoman, precisely the Yeoman layers line-up, putting the magnifier-phillips layer in the middle and scissors layer on the top ;)

The Hook rules ... :D
