As you may know I work as the Battle NCO in our Squadron TOC. An impressive name for what most of the time is a pretty boring job.

In a prefect world everyday would be boring and uneventful because that means nobody in our Squadron is in contact with the enemy and we are not the target of indirect fire. Indirect fire being a euphemism that means someone is trying to kill you with something that does not shoot directly at you. Say for example a rocket or artillery.

Well today was one of them slow days here in Afghanistan so I decided to improve my foxhole. Army speak for doing something to improve the area I work.

Specifically make some new map markers because our old ones are well old and or lost. Why use a map you say when you could just track the location of friendly and enemy units on a high speed computer? Well believe it or not we do but as a back up in the case of power loss or other computer related malady we use the old fashioned map as back up.

No scissors to be found any where left me with Little Boy to do the job. Good thing Joel sent him my way nice and sharp.

Still undecided on the need for scissors though. One of them nice to have things I guess.

After work and a quick stop at the camp store it was decided a reminder of why we do the things we do was needed. Again Little Boy was pressed into service to screw some screws and cut some 550 cord.

I was very curious and did a Google search on your duties...man...you are a busy guy.  :o

I found the following a very interesting read. Gave me insight into military operations that I didn't know about. Mind you, much of it I didn't understand.

Anyhow, keep up this thread, I am enjoying this tremendously.  :salute:

Got to go the SGM is asking me about the PTDS going down and we have 3-6 in a BP in grid PQ till 0733.

Ok Private Little Boy is back from leave and done helping with the demise of Lynn's LLST. Since LB had a part in the final seconds of LLST's life I thought adding some pics of that would be worthwhile here.

Most of you have already seen the pictures and video but for those who have not or come along later here you go.

If you was wondering yes that is 17 pounds of military grade C-4 explosives and what remains of a Les Stroud MT after a run in with this beauty at the range.

If you was wondering once again yes that is a M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System.

So there are no pictures of the work Pvt Little Boy put in prepping the C-4 for blasting caps because well being blown up by a stray electronic signal from my phone/camera while prepping half a case of C-4 is not Harley's idea of a good time.

What I do have for you is a video of what happened after the work was done.

Expect a little less activity here as things wind down and with me being in my new job as a Battle NCO. Will keep up with this thread at least till I come home though so I will see you all in the trenches.

So we were back at the range today working with the M110 and M2010 qualifying the new snipers we selected the other day. No fun for Harley just supervising and safety stuff.

On the more bad side of things even if you do not shoot your rifle there is still cleaning to be done. So Private Little Boy was enlisted to help break down the trusty M-4 so all the appropriate crannys and nooks could be cleaned to Army standard.

Here he is hard at work, or more accurately laying around while the cleaning happened. Slacker.

Pfft who knows. I stopped paying attention to what kinda private a private is years ago. They all do dumb smurf on a equal level imo.

Little boy simply fits in there
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Pretty much from the start of the war on terror there has been a tradition for a unit to make a sign somewhere on there base. On this sign you will find the name of the base, the unit, names of the key leaders and maybe the units crest.

Well a little while back we repainted the sign that was made by the Marines that we relieved here. The pictures of this somehow got missed in my updates. So being that this is my thread I will now throw out three snaps, push out my hip and say "whateva I do what I want!" and post it now.

Private Little Boy was in charge of pulling out old nails and opening paint cans.

So I got one of the guys from our operations section to help me with the work. Here he is getting his red on. He is very good at this kind of work and may or may not be Mexican, just saying.

Jobs complete. Well at least as complete as I am willing to show on the internet. Just use your imagination and around the crest in the middle is the name of our base and Unit. Along with the names of our Colonel and Command Sergeant Major.

Private Little Boy approves the finished product.
